"Members Of Cheney's Staff Continued To Call For Military Strikes Against Iran On A Daily Basis"
Iran report frustrates US hawks
By Adam Brookes
BBC News, Washington

In an abrupt change of position, the US intelligence agencies now say they do not know if Iran intends to build a nuclear weapon.

The report says Iran may still face problems enriching uranium

The unclassified version of a new National Intelligence Estimate, or NIE, released on Monday, said that Iran was "less determined to develop nuclear weapons than we have been judging since 2005".

.....................

One source, who has close links to US intelligence, said that members of Vice President Dick Cheney's staff continued to call for military strikes against Iran "on a daily basis".

Senior military officers and intelligence officials are understood to have grave reservations about an attack on Iran - not least because it would be unclear how a military confrontation with Iran could be brought to a conclusion.

Wouldn't surprise me. Scary thought than any of them would. Not a one is qualified to make that kind of decision.

3. I wonder if these members of Cheney's staff...
...are the 'American friends' referred to by Israeli Prime Minister Olmert?

Israel vows to resist Iran nuclear drive despite US report

<snip>

"Israel on Tuesday charged that Iran is still seeking nuclear weapons despite a new US report claiming the contrary, and vowed to continue its diplomatic campaign against its arch-foe.

"Iran is probably continuing its programme of fabricating a nuclear bomb," Defence Minister Ehud Barak told army radio, according to its website.

Even if the Islamic republic halted its programme in 2003, as said in a new US intelligence assessment, Israel believed it has since been relaunched.

Amid fears that with the new report Israel could find itself isolated in its drive to keep international pressure on Iran over its controversial nuclear programme, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert vowed to push ahead with such efforts.

"It is necessary to continue our efforts with our American friends to prevent Iran from obtaining non-conventional weapons," Olmert said on army radio."

4. You know why they don't know?
Because BushCo exposed Brewester Jennings and Valerie Plame's cover. When that happened, we lost all Nuclear Intel in the Middle East.

5. Maybe BushCo exposed Plame because they didn't want to know.
That way, they could make up any bullshit that they wanted and there would be no way to prove them wrong.

Just a hunch...

6. Hawks "frustrated?"
Would that our maniacally obsessive hawks actually could be
frustrated! The PNAC mob has been having a ball, and our
"democracy" is apparently unable to constrain them.

7. Let's see, the arc has been . . .
The arc of this story has been "Iran's about to develop nukes! Bomb them!" to "Oh, Iran is a decade away from developing nuclear weapons, if they ever will," to "We don't know, bomb hell out of them anyway, because we can't be sure!"

Curiously, this is exactly the reason why torture is such bad policy: "He's a bad un, get out the waterboard!" to "We can't tell, better torture him anyway because we can't be sure."

8. PayBack
Pure & Simple. Exposing another war lie before they can do the full sell job. Wasn't Kagan humping and pumping for war, at a private WH meeting, not too long ago? The neos must be pulling their hair out. And where does this leave those dem candidates who wouldn't rule another war out?
