Did anyone ever hear the interview with Aaron Brown? It was un-fucking-real - he was such a rude little bitch...

I hope she interviews that little dweeb Anderson Cooper. That'll be good.

18. This is an interview that must be heard, wow
It's hard to describe -- I made myself late for work this morning because I just stood there at a certain point, staring at my little radio in disbelief while the clock ticked away.

Perhaps it was so stunning/sickening/hilarious/repulsive/compelling because it was obviously so difficult for an infotainment personality to deal with an actual journalist beyond the infotainment world. Dobbs started out amused and superior but the whole thing... devolved. When he started accusing Juan Gonzales of being self-important for not seeing the "humor" in a clip about a Mexican invasion, things really deteriorated. It was one of the most bizarre DN interviews ever. Seriously, if you can, have a listen.

32. lou dobbs wins
Although he did talk over them a lot, he also raised important points about the hypocrisy of dn and the so called "independent" media. As Goodman and gonzales were playing gotcha journalism, dobbs ran them over, if you can't see that your not being honest. Based on the content of what they said he made them look foolish. He made great points about the show DN, which is that they are simply idealogues skewing a story to fit their position. They are almost no better than bill o'reilly. However, the fact that they are ideologues isn't a problem, but the fact that amy goodman insists on going on and on about problems with the "mainstream media" is. She's being hypocritical because her journalism is no better, in fact it could be worse since linktv makes its money from liberals, she has far more incentive to be biased than say, ABC news getting money from state farm. I could go on about that, but he also mentioned another liberal problem, which is the fact that liberals tend to be very condescending and believe that as a general rule people are stupid and have no sense. I wasn't a lou dobbs fan before this (i'm sure you won't believe that), but this episode was really entertaining and i might start watching his show, although i still believe building a fence is a waste. Finally, i'd just like to point out from an unbiased point of view, it was goodman and gonzales who looked defensive.

Stupid enough to believe the con man who is picking your pocket. Stupid enough to vote for an idiot to be President. Stupid enough to swirl down the toilet and take everybody with you because you lack the character to admit you were wrong. The country is FUCKED because of stupid people like YOU, and it pisses me off.

But I hate Lou Dobbs and I am not interested in anything he has to say. Yesterday I was watching TV at the gym (with the sound off) and Lou Dobbs came on. Under a picture of Chavez, there was the word LOSER. And then below, in the crawl, it called Chavez the "anti-American" Venezuelan President. CNN has no pretense of objectivity. I have no strong opinions of Chavez really, but he is hardly anti-American. Anti-Bush, sure. We have that in common. Anti-US Government and CIA also but not anti-American.

66. He's horrible.
Whenever I hear his voice or see his mug on CNN, I change the channel.

68. I cannot watch him. But I guess I thought it was just me or something.
But Amy and Juan outed him for repeatedly sourcing his reports via hate groups, getting guests from the same.

It's horrible that he's on the air at all.

75. CNN just moved his show...he's PRIMETIME getting one of the best slots...
since he's supposedly garnering massive ratings for them. (and I find that really hard to be true...could there actually be that many nationalistic jackbooters enjoying his racist blathering?)

I decided, after reading about the reasons behind his new time slot, that my own tv may be contributing to his "popularity", so haven't done any critical viewing of him for a while, but it should be noted, those dubious "facts" which he spews can regularly be found regurgitating from the mouths of the clueless and misguided who rejoice at this chance to bare their prejudice.

I'm convinced that since his "makeover" or "operation" or whatever the hell it was that he's done to his slimy image, (while he was out pretending to be sick), the man fully intends to seek public office, soon.

81. The banality of evil. I remember plenty of people defending this person
right here.

And it's possible that people who don't recognize bigotry get taken in by his airbrushed grandfather act.

He makes my skin crawl and maybe CNN needs some emails about Amy's interview and what she and Juan found on this creep. It's influences like his that pervert our culture.

74. I watched his "Moneyline" for years,
back when he wasn't smart enough to hide his rabid right-wing capitalist "economy" viewpoint in his back pocket...I believe they brought him back to Moneyline specifically to drum this anti-immigrant crap up, right after the prez took office...that's why they dropped that title and changed it to just "Lou Dobbs Tonight" not long after. He's been with CNN longer than practically any of the rest of those nimrods, at least he was there from the beginning, then disappeared a while and came back with bells on.

I've despised him goin' on almost thirty years, whenever CNN first hit the airwaves.

78. Lou Dobbs is a reactionary, but so are most Democrats on these issues
Edited on Thu Dec-06-07 01:49 AM by alcibiades_mystery
The American working class - which, until the post-War period, was as radical as the working class elsewhere - was essentially bribed for 45 years. The vaunted "higher standard of living" was the fruit of this bribe from the capitalist class. It wasn't a gift. It was a calculated and necessary expense, first, because the US was the seat of consumption, and second, because it was the bulwark against an international worker's uprising. It has become unnecessary now. Why?

1) Cheaper shipping and information goods mean that the location of labor is relatively unimportant with respect to consumption. You don't need to locate a working class with a consuming class. That this leads to a crisis of overproduction is clear enough, but the crisis of overproduction is and always has been the bane of free market economies. Marx was right about that. We didn't escape from the basic tendency of capitalist systems for 45 or 50 years. We merely deferred it, or found temporary counteracting tendencies (credit, production innovations, etc.; don't forget that the much ballyhoo'ed "just in time" production model was designed precisely to prevent this tendency from manifesting itself, as it always does and always will).

2) You no longer have an organized international worker's movement, however much that concept was bastardized and abused by state socialism. As such, you no longer need the bulwark or the bribe.

So the bribe has been rescinded, and now the bribe-takers are crying about it (that's us). But the bribe was very specific. It said: we'll provide you with a higher standard of living so long as you avoid international working class solidarity. No alliances with other workers! None! That was the deal we, the so-called "middle class," struck with the capitalists. It's over. We're back to maximum use of surplus value: outsourcing, cheap labor, fuck your standard of living, the chains of the credit economy, fast collapsing around us. So what does Lou Dobbs' say?

"More bribe! More bribe! No alliances with other workers! No international working class solidarity!"

And this passes as "progressivism" to fools and liars. Because Dobbs apparently takes the side of the workers against the corporations, a magic trick, a feint, a con and a scam. Lou Dobbs, like Pat Buchanan before him, has found a way to make support for the true goals of corporate capitalism (maintenance of working class fragmentation, prevention of a true, free-moving labor market that could demand high wages) appear in the shape of a pro-worker argument. It's a fucking lie, just like every lie the capitalists have used to set worker against worker, divide and conquer, kill solidarity at every turn, be3cause only solidarity wins the day. Now the capitalists get to have it both ways: they move to the cheapest labor possible while having the very labor movement they are crushing rally behind their arguments. There's your fucking hero, Lou Dobbs. Divider of workers, maintainer of working class fragmentation, supposedly sneering at the "elite," while pushing forth the means to maintain and extend elitism. The jokes on you, worker. Ya been took. Again.

Why does it work? Because real working class solidarity requires sacrifice. In our case it means relinquishing the bribe, not getting all nostalgically misty-eyed for it, which is the sentiment that Dobbs plays on.

Did you see or read the interview? Guest after guest after guest after guest from RW hate groups designated as hate groups by the SLPC. Even I was just aghast. I knew he was bad but I didn't realize just HOW bad.

He kept interrupting Amy to tell her that it was a second of air time and, alternately, that upon finding out his guest's credentials, he agreed they were slime. Over and over and over.

It was unbelievable in the extreme. If I was teaching a course on hatred in American culture, I'd teach that interview first. :wow:

I was surprised when it was only 23 times. I've never seen a guest on Democracy Now be so rude and combative.

on the show. Amy and Juan did a great job handling him.
