1. Yes. He and Lieberman both came back praising the troop surge as the right policy.

2. and lied about what the troops said according to Oliver North.
Ollie said the troops didn't think more would help, said he talked to the same guys and maybe was with them at the same time, but when McCain and Lieberman came back they said the troops said they wanted the surge.

3. When Ollie North calls you untruthful, that's a bad sign.

5. The more apropos question is really, who hasn't?
During recess, it's continuous CODEL time out that way. Everyone lines up to have their pic taken in an oversized vest and helmet, standing next to some poor bastards who would rather be in their own house watching TV.

http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/blogs/politicalticker/2006/12/us-congressional-delegation-visits.html
Along with McCain and Lieberman, the others in the delegation are Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine; Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina.; John Thune, R-South Dakota; and Rep. Mark Kirk, R-Illinnois, the embassy said.

Not his first visit, either. Here's a load of heavily laced bullshit from a rightwing rag, describing how McCain 'dissed the troops on an earlier visit, and how Rummy is so much better--from 04 (no endorsement of this link is intended, mind you) http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/12/17/104630.shtml
