Woman Allegedly Steals Purse, Chokes Nun

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A woman who stopped in a church, asking to use a phone, ended up stealing a purse and breaking another woman’s cross necklace late last month, according to police reports.

Emmie Jo Lowery, 35, entered the St. Matthias Church/School, at 1566 Ferris Rd., and asked to use the telephone at 9:17 a.m. Nov. 7.

Lowery allegedly entered a classroom and removed a purse that belonged to Elizabeth Hutchison, 60.

Sister Marie Shields, 69, attempted to stop Lowery, according to police reports.

Police said Lowery grabbed Sister Shields by the neck, choking her and breaking her cross.
