So AirAmerica is no longer in Austin, so in the morning I tune into NPR... |
|
I think my IQ has dropped several points.
After AA, NPR is like listening to repuke sermons.

2. I gave up on KUT three years ago. |
|
KUT's "improved" local coverage does not compensate for the pap that comes out of the NPR studio these days.
The radio in my car isn't working right now.
Silence is golden, and all that.

6. calling KUT's news coverage "improved" is an over-the-top compliment. |
|
The best part about the traffic report on that joke of a station is they never ever mention mopac. Like it doesn't exist.
I've heard weather reports telling me it's sunny out while I was caught in a rain storm.
John Aly in the morning needs to retired 3 years ago.
the only things I listen to on there are: this american life, Twine time and American roots.
Their entire day programming sucks.
I find when the news comes on I switch over to KGSR. I just can't stomach the bleating from the inane commentators and the suck ups when they play recordings of morons* latest "brilliant" remarks.

I used to love listening to KUT on Friday and Saturday nights. Can't remember right now the name of the friday night dj, but I always thought he was very good. And Twine Time too - nothing like it.
Until now, I've felt so alone in my loathing of Aelli's "programming." welcome!

4. Yeah, I gave up on NPR back in 2000. |
|
It's a shame, because at one time, it offered rather intelligent, informative reporting.

15. 2000 was it for me too. I miss it so much. |
|
For awhile I was happy with Sam Seder followed by Thom Hartmann mornings on AAR. Now I am back to searching for mp3s on the net and basically doing my own personal programming. Takes more effort but it beats gigo.

20. We lost our marginal AAR affiliate in Dallas over a year ago when the Catholic church bought the |
|
station. At that point, I just went out and bought an XM radio, which I like more than I thought I would. Besides AAR, there are a lot of other interesting things on XM.
I take it everywhere, even when I go out of town. I even bought an extra car kit to use in rental cars when I'm away.

14. Welcome to my world. In this area of Maine, NPR is as |
|
good as it gets on free radio. We have probably a dozen right wing radio talk shows on am radio. I swear you can listen to Rush Limpball on at least three stations and all the other RW whack jobs are on the other stations. If you dare to try FM radio, all you get are "zany" dj's making fart noises in between your choice of bad 80's lite rock, country, western, country-western, or 90's hip hop. I find myself listening to lots of cd's in the car on my way to work. I can't wait to get there so I can stream good radio programs at my desk. Hopefully, my wife got the hints I've dropped for Sirius Radio.

16. You should try E. TN or SW. VA. Molly Hatchet or crazy preachers talking about Jabez or something.. |
|
Luckily my wife took pity and agreed to an XM subscription. So many things I used to take for granted, like free radio, or even free water. Why Sirius? I picked XM mainly because it has Air America, and the Bob Dylan show. Other than Howard Stern, I didn't see any real big differences otherwise.

18. 24 hour Grateful Dead channel on Sirius. |
|
That's what sold me. I won't get Air America, but I just couldn't pass up 24 hrs/day of the Dead. Besides, my wife has XM in her car and I still suspect Sirius will buy XM or the other way around before too long.

I got spoiled living in Houston for so many years. Gawd, how I miss KPFT. I used to get their broadcast of news from the BBC and Amy Goodman's Democracy Now! program. I still listen over the internet at www.KPFT.org when I get to work. When it came time to pony up money for "public radio" this past fall, my dollars went to KPFT. Gotta vote with my wallet.
