Can JOE KLEIN (Time) Top His Last Fuck Up??? YES HE CAN!!!!
Joe Klein Offers An Amazing Clarification

Poor, misunderstood Joe Klein. In the aftermath of his idiotic amazing take on George Bush's spin of the newly released National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) as documented by Think Progress, Klein has issued a clarification:

Misinterpreted

OBviously, I was referring to the NIE itself as a remarkable moment of candor for the United States. I thought that Bush's reaction to it was, literally, incredible. As in, not to be believed--which was made completely clear in my cover story.

--snip--

Obviously? Let's review:

"The Bush reaction to this — he didn’t try to block it. He didn’t try to postpone it. He didn’t spend weeks, he didn’t ask the intelligence community ‘give me a couple of weeks, let’s see if we can figure out some kind of negotiating initiative or some way to respond to this.’ He didn’t try to spin it to our advantage. This is an amazing moment of candor by the United States."

3. Heh - and I suppose he was always against the war from the beginning, too.
Amazing the revisionism that is going on from all those who supported Bush for the last 5 years.

4. About as good as his story on the FISA 'block' warrants. Why does Joe Klein even have a
job at Time? Why is it that the only people we see on TV, hear on the radio, or read in the 'news' are totally ignorant?

6. Shocking!
A major media pundit makes error after error excoriating Democrats unfairly or extolling Republicans undeservedly, yet he keeps his job and is in fact defended and rewarded. But file one report that's factually true which some shrill segment can persuade folks is dubiously sourced, and you're gone like spit in a skillet. Oh yeah; the report showed George W. Bush to be a deserter, but what of it?

8. Maybe I'M misinterpreting something, but I thought the NIE was leaked
precisely in order prevent the Bush monarchy from exercising its special brand of "candor" upon it. Well, According to Cheney himself via the AFP: "There's nothing in the NIE that said we should not be concerned about their enrichment activities," said the vice president, who hinted that the decision to release parts of the NIE stemmed partly from a belief that they would leak.

So they leaked their own report as a pre-emptive strike? Now I get it. They couldn't lie about the contents since they could be contradicted by the real report, so they're taking refuge in claiming that though it shows they were COMPLETELY wrong, there is still just cause for "concern."
