Nearly two-thirds of Americans think federal officials had specific warning of 9/11.
http://www.scrippsnews.com/node/28533

A stunning new poll has been conducted by Scripps Howard News Service/Ohio University showing that 62% of Americans suspect complicity in 9/11. See the poll report on their website at http://www.scrippsnews.com/node/28533. Sadly, the New York Post was the only major media to pick up this key report, and their article was very slanted against 9/11 truth. You can see it at http://www.nypost.com/seven/11242007/news/nationalnews/blame_u_s__for_9_11_idiots_in_majority_318165.htm.

Many Americans still believe in conspiracies
By KEVIN CROWE and GUIDO H. STEMPEL III
Scripps Howard News Service
Friday, November 23, 2007

Nearly two-thirds of Americans think it is possible that some federal officials had specific warnings of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, but chose to ignore those warnings, according to a Scripps Howard News Service/Ohio University poll.

A national survey of 811 adult residents of the United States conducted by Scripps and Ohio University found that more than a third believe in a broad smorgasbord of conspiracy theories including the attacks, international plots to rig oil prices, the plot to assassinate President John F. Kennedy in 1963 and the government's knowledge of intelligent life from other worlds.

The high percentage is a manifestation, some say, of an American public that increasingly distrusts the federal government.

"You wouldn't have gotten these numbers a year or two after the attacks themselves," said University of Florida law professor Mark Fenster. "You've got an increasingly disaffected public that is unhappy with the administration."

13. I Keep Drawing Lines In The Sand
Boundaries I cannot mentally cross, thoughts I am incapable of thinking. The President and V.P., the Administration, keep pushing me over and beyond those lines. One of my final mental blocks involves this alleged conspiracy: how you allow 9/11 to happen because it buttresses the execution of a Middle-East invasion plan.

I can't yet conceive of that. I'll keep my head up my rear a little longer because my life is already too short and my blood pressure too high.

It seemed far too obvious to me. I became a charter member of DU's Grassy Knoll Society as well.

Rather than being the result of an overactive imagination, in my case it has been due to an imagination that continues to be incapable of bridging the chasm between the FBI performance regarding Richard Jewell and the FBI's ability to identify, with photos, all 19 hijackers within about 48 hours of the collapse of the towers. To even begin to believe the FBI could assemble such investigative data in such a time-frame requires an imagination I'm just not possessed of.

Besides, I actually PREDICTED an 'event' of that magnitude, leading to a hot war in the Middle East, in September of 2000 ... a full year before it happened. Prescient? Nope. KSOTO.

46. Same here, although it took me a couple of hours longer...
I watched a bit of the TV coverage, went to the computer and made a "cui bono" list. BushCo and its cronies in the weapons, banking and fossil fuels industries came out on top no matter how many ways I asked the question.

And nothing in the intervening six years has demonstrated otherwise, while almost everything they've gotten away with -- both foreign and domestic -- confirms the hypothesis. I don't know if it was LIHOP or MIHOP and I really don't care. Their hands are filthy in either case and they need to be brought to account as either perpetrators of or accessories to mass murder. I think both carry the same penalties, so I'm fine in either case.

As an aside, I saw Cynthia McKinney -- the honorary chairperson of the Grassy Knoll Society -- speak in Portland a month or so ago. If by some impossible fluke she were speaker of the house rather than the incompetent and/or complicit Ms. Nancy, McKinney would have had the whole lot of them impeached, tried, convicted, removed and then handed over to federal authorities for criminal proceedings.

Failing that, she said she's working with an international group of legal scholars and activists whose ultimate objective is to get Bush and Cheney -- and anyone else they can catch up with -- to The Hague to stand trial for war crimes.

Remember when Mossad snatched Eichmann from Argentina and brought him to Israel to stand trial for war crimes? There are other very competent intelligence services and black ops specialists throughout the world. I'd like to see one or more of them use their skills in a similar fashion against this century's bloodiest war criminals.

23. They had means, motive and opportunity.
The means is easy to show, they were in charge. Motive is demonstrated at newamericancentury.org in the Statement of Principles, and the opportunity was doing nothing after the warnings.

Couple that with all the other oddities and there's a stench that hangs over this administration that will never clear.

48. business decisions
i have always thought bush let 9/11 happen. that look on his face in the school was not shock, it was realization of what was expected, was happening. that is why they did not get him out of there, there wasn't any danger to him.

bush is the business president, said so himself!!! on closer look of his successes, he was the only one saying it!!! anyway, when you are in business, you make business decisions all the time. give a little, get alot. give a good customer their money back because you will get more in the long run. any of you out there remember the ford pinto and exploding gas tanks?? well lee iacoccoa of ford's made a business decision not to recall the pinto due to the placement of the gas tank because their calculation showed the number of people killed with subsequent financial payoffs was alot less than paying to recall. so a few lives, maybe hundreds, thousands were sacrificed on a business decision.

bush made a business decision. they had a pretty good idea planes would be used and an approximate dateline. they knew it would be the new york city area, bin laden told them that. the administration financial people were called in plus airline execs. after discussing the financial repercussions of shutting down the airlines, to the airlines(big bush supporters) and the economy, a business decision was made. cheaper to let 9/11 happen than prevent it. besides as the administration insiders said they needed another pearl harbor.

i am not a real conspiracy theorist but have made business decisions. not on 9/11 scale. after watching building 7 come down i think bushies knew more definite timeline and that building was rigged to be demolished. looked just like
an old vegas hotel coming down, imploding as they are supposed to do.

are we not lucky to have such a successful business prez????!!!!

Most Americans suspicious of massive cover-ups with national significance. Instead they frame it as if the "doubters" make Americans just a bunch of ignorant nuts. Ignorant, yes, but they know and feel there is a reason for that ignorance- with good reason and repeated justification.

Cover-up in many cases is the only FACT the public has to face, our national berlin Wall against the truth and against us in every way.

16. Why is it so hard for Americans to face the truth on this issue?
Why do they continue to live in a world of denial despite the overwhelming evidence which proves that the official conspiracy theory is a lie?

"My guess is that Americans simply can’t go there, just as many can’t possibly entertain the thought that 9/11 might have been done by their government, or at least perhaps allowed to happen. People can imagine that the war was a mistake, but not that they are such pathetic pawns of their own government that their lives and the lives of American military personnel are of zero consequence to political elites. Or that those daddy-figures upon whom they rely for their precarious sense of security could in fact be vicious predators readily able to betray, ruin and destroy their own public for purposes of financial or power enrichment.

This is just too much for the psyche to handle. This is something that happens in banana republics, or history books, right? – not in contemporary democratic America. And certainly not by those super-patriots of the Republican right, the ones who are so eternally vigilant about keeping us safe.
To truly understand the magnitude of what is at stake here, one has to resort to the greatest of violations of trust of which the human animal is capable, such as the molestations of daughters by their fathers, or of little boys by their priests, or the betrayal of comrades during wartime. Such sickening transgressions are often too heinous to even contemplate, frequently blowing the psychological circuits of anyone subjected to them.

Sometimes the choice is between denial or death.

And so it is that Americans continue through their day, oblivious – by self design – to the magnitude of the evil that has been visited upon them.

But, ironically, this is not remedy at all. Obliviousness to victimization by government is no excuse, especially in a democracy, and especially when other innocent people are much greater victims, to the tune of about a million in number.

To a very large extent, those who would ignore the crimes committed in their name – crimes they have the power to stop – become criminals themselves."

Edited on Sat Dec-08-07 02:26 AM by StrictlyRockers
You have to be your own judge on these matters. I was quoting someone else's statement on the cognitive dissonance problem that comes with grasping heinous crimes like this.

My opinion on this, my translation of it, is that I would be complicit and criminal in my actions if I did not speak out and state to people what I know to be true. I have to fight the good fight on this issue, because I am aware. I hardly think that anyone else is criminal or complicit in these crimes if they are unaware of all of the facts.

The reasons for someone choosing not to educate themselve and thereby keeping themselves ignorant is another matter. But to me, it does not rise to the level of being considered criminal. Lazy? Maybe yes. But criminal? No. What is criminal, in my mind, is to be aware of the crimes which your government commits in your name and to not act against it.

33. If the evidence is that overwhelming,
then STFU and present it to Congress or the media. But of course the 'evidence' for a conspiracy in this case is about as solid as the evidence for the moon landing hoax. Bad Google videos and amateur picture analysis aren't enough for a conviction.

I can easily believe the government does evil things, but it takes more to convince me than a bunch of tinfoil hat videos and sites. And especially when they are chock full of bad science and outright lies.

Furthermore polls mean nothing. A recent poll discovered that more Americans believe in Creationism than in evolution. That doesn't make Creationism a valid scientific theory.

And like Creationism, 9/11 conspiracy theorists have already come to the conclusion and mold whatever data they find to fit it. When Clinton was in office, you had the right-wing nutters that thought he was letting the UN take over America. Same shit, different day.

She's gagged under the states secrets privilege. The mainstream media apparently are refusing to interview her.
do you think she's a liar? And while you are at it you can talk to Robert Wright of the FBI and Colleen Rowley
and Anthony Shaffer of Able Danger. There is quite a bit of evidence pointing to foreknowledge and obstruction
of investigations, that has nothing to do with picture analysis or scientific analysis.

60. They cherry-pick data to make it fit their theories.
So do all the other conspiracy nuts. It's called confirmation bias.

I think the government had warnings of SOMETHING. But I am not certain that it was very specific. BUT the Clinton Administration was able to stop other attacks based on whatever info they had. And you would think that, since the WTC had been attacked before, they might watch it a little more closely than they did. Also, there were reports of people taking flying lessons but not wanting to learn how to land or take-off. That should have raised more flags than it did at the time.

So basically all I think the Bush Administration is guilty of is negligence at the most. I do not think they ignored the warnings on purpose. They ignored them because they are incompetent and also because they refused to listen to the previous administration (like, they can't know anything, they are just Democrats- some sort of stupid Republican pride thing). That is about as much as I am willing to concede on the conspiracy front.

40. The incompetence theory...
Edited on Sat Dec-08-07 02:22 PM by warren pease
They did no such thing as run around like headless chickens. On the contrary, they were enormously successful that day. Let's look at their accomplishments:

They got the entire world to believe that a ragtag organization called Al Qaeda, fronted by a guy in a cave armed with only a laptop and a phone, managed to coordinate an unbelievably complex plan that had involved years of planning and training, much money, split-second timing and ridiculously good luck.

They got the entire world to believe that four hijackers, who couldn't fly single-engine Cessnas for shit, suddenly became the Blue Angels when at the controls of large, twin-engine Boeing jetliners.

They got the entire world to believe that the crime of the century was pulled off by 19 guys with box-cutters whose names (nor any other Arabic names) don't appear on any passenger manifests and at least six of whom have been seen alive and well in the Middle East since 9/11/01 (one even interviewed by the BBC).

Better yet, they got the entire world to believe their evidence linking these 19 guys to the hijackings using for proof a few cell phone calls that were impossible to make with 2001 technology; a carry-on bag allegedly left behind by Atta in Maine containing, among other things, his will (and that's surely something you'd take with you on a flight you knew was going to be blown into dust); and the kicker, a passport, allegedly belonging to one of the hijackers, that miraculously survived a massive explosion and temps we're told were high enough to melt steel and fluttered unsullied to the ground, where it was found among the debris in what used to be the WTC plaza.

They got the entire world to believe that this guy in the cave ordered four exercise scenarios -- Vigilant Warrior, Vigilant Guardian, Northern Guardian and Northern Vigilance – which diverted to northern Canada or Alaska many of the NORAD fighter jets that would have been scrambled per standard operating procedure in the event of a suspected hijacking.

They got the entire world to believe that this same guy in the cave was able to insert as many as 22 false radar blips onto air traffic controller screens throughout the northeast corridor so that the controllers had no idea which blips represented planes that had been hijacked, which ones represented non-hijacked flights still in the air and which blips were phantoms -- rendering them incapable of following the actual moves of the four hijacked jets and/or coordinating with the FAA to relay warnings to NORAD interceptors (most of which, again, were screwing around over the arctic wastes).

They got the entire world to believe that the remaining NORAD forces -- which had been a perfect 67 for 67 for 2001 prior to 9/11 -- managed to completely fail in their missions four separate times that morning.

They got the entire world to believe that it was only a coincidence that a fifth exercise was taking place at the same time, this one designed to test emergency response capabilities at the National Reconnaissance Office in the event that an off-course plane from nearby Dulles airport crashed into one of the NRO's four office towers.

They got the entire world to believe that two planes took down three skyscrapers, and that for the first and only time in history, fire brought down reinforced steel and concrete structures and caused them to collapse vertically rather than keel over sideways and take out a few blocks of the NYC financial district.

They got the entire world to absolve them from any complicity in "the events of 9/11," even though the above list of "coincidences" is inexplicable without the knowledge, involvement and approval of people high up in the federal food chain.

And that was only the beginning...

They got the entire world to believe Condi Rice when she testified at the 9/11 Commission that "I don't think anybody could have predicted that these people would take an airplane and slam it into the World Trade Center, take another one and slam it into the Pentagon; that they would try to use an airplane as a missile, a hijacked airplane as a missile."

They got the entire world to forget that at least 11 countries had issued warnings of an imminent attack against the US: Afghanistan, Argentina, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Israel, Jordan, Morocco, Russia and the UK.

They got the entire world to forget that Bush slept on a US Navy ship in Genoa Harbor during the July 2001 G8 meeting because Italian intelligence services had intercepted communications indicating terrorists might try to use a hijacked plane to assassinate Bush by ramming his hotel. Not to mention http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timeline.jsp?warning_signs:_specific_cases=bojinka&timeline=complete_911_timeline">Operation Bojinka, which the CIA had learned of back in the mid-'90s and should have provided some hints of future activities.

They and their mass media allies turned an unpopular simpleton with a sinking approval rating into a heroic "war president" with a 90 percent + approval rating.

They immediately used this popularity to begin their campaign of domestic repression (starting with the first patriot act); began rattling sabers to get public buy-in for insane increases in pentagon spending; invented a war on terror to further justify enriching cronies at banks, arms merchants and fossil fuels companies; and attacked Afghanistan, murdering tens of thousands of civilians but failing to find that omnipotent guy in the cave.

And ever since, it's been the express train to hell for the US and the world. Anything's fair in the phony war on terror that 9/11 launched and sanctified -- preemptive civilian slaughter branded "shock and awe," blatantly looting the national historical treasures of a sovereign nation, commandeering its oil reserves for the exclusive profit of US and UK petrochemical companies, building forward bases from which to rule the Middle East, privatizing everything that wasn't nailed down, threatening or ridiculing any national leader who dares to differ with US hegemony, threatening Iran with nuclear weapons, the use of illegal torture to compel confessions (which are, of course, useless since they're obtained under duress), and earning the richly deserved title of the world's most feared and despised rogue state.

And that's just the foreign policy side. Domestically, the official 9/11 story has justified an ever-expanding list of repressive legislation, executive orders and presidential directives; massive federal invasions of privacy re medical and financial records; snooping on all US citizens' communications; re-targeting spy satellites for domestic surveillance; the existence of the department of Vaterland Security; the TSA cavity search specialists (for attractive young women only; the rest are presumed to pose no threat to the state); no-fly lists and terrorist watch lists; RFIDs in all new passports and in new national ID cards scheduled to be issued next year; Blackwater building new training camps as fast as they can clear the permit process...

Well, that's enough for now although there are dozens -- maybe hundreds -- of additional outrages that have been justified by "the events of 9/11." Point of all this being: the official 9/11 story is the lynchpin, the keystone, the springboard for every single act of international aggression and domestic repression this administration has been able to get away with. Absent 9/11, or at least the BushCo version, they don't have a leg to stand on. Demolish the official coincidence theory and their entire rationale crumbles.

That's why attacking, discrediting and ultimate disproving the official 9/11 myth is so critical to the continued survival of the republic. And when I see people doing BushCo's PR work for them right on this very board, I have to wonder at the level of desperation these people must live with to accept the official story, with all its hideous results, rather than admit that the federal government would commit mass murder against its own people.

But then there's always Operation Northwoods for a bit of historical perspective. Even US mass media managed to pick up on that one.

34. Bush knew.
Here he is, just told a second plane has been hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center, a half hour after he’s been informed that a plane was hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center. He doesn’t even wink when Andy Card tells him, “America is under attack,” let alone scramble the Air Force.

At BEST, this shows criminal dereliction of duty. Most LIKELY, it shows treason.

Plot to assassinate Bush – reports

Ashcroft Flying High

Why would Osama bin Laden want to kill Dubya, his former business partner?

Genoa braces for G8 summit

Here’s more on the warnings the administration received BEFORE SEPTEMBER 11, 2001:

Rice More Sordid Than Foley

On her recommendation, Tenet briefed Ashcroft and Rumsfeld (not Powell, though).

Rumsfeld, Ashcroft said to have received warning of attack

An exasperated Tenet then ordered an underling to brief Monkey in Crawford in August.

While Bush vacationed, 9/11 warnings went unheard.

Here’s what seals the deal for me:

Bin Laden determined to strike in US

Then, he turned around and said to the CIA briefer:

"All right. You've covered your ass now."

The crazy monkey IS a traitor.

I knew it was planned....CIA and Mossad seem to be the likely culprits. But I'm open to other ideas.

36. We now know explicitly that Bush knew...he was safely with Jeb
in Florida, specifically sitting doing nothing to stop the murders. But if memory serves me, Laura and the girls were still in D.C. What a guy/not.

44. Because it's true. They had specific warnings. See this documentary for Dutch public tv (subtitled):
9/11: Attack or godsend?
Was 9/11 more than just an attack? Could the Bush administration have had anything to gain from the attack? Two prominent European politicians, Michael Meacher and Andreas von Bülow, express their serious doubts about the official version of the 9/11 story.
