A shocking and scary statistic
In light of Huckabee's comment about AIDS patients this statistic is even scarier. 47% of people would refuse to swim in a pool with a person they knew had HIV (source Out Magazine via Power of 10 no online source) That is honestly terrifying. This is from 2007, not 1987. Sadly, Huckabee apparently represents a significant portion of the country with his thoughts on this issue.

3. So gross. So ignorant. You have as much a chance getting HIV from a pool as
you do getting cancer. Hmm, maybe less depending on the chemicals in the pool.

5. Just a little something I must have picked up at the pool, honey
Honest!

It is not hard to see how a large part of the population would cling to such devastating lies. On the other hand, why are people ignorant about AIDS? Has there been a massive ongoing campaign to educate the nation about the facts about AIDS? Not that I'm aware of.

4. Education.
We are a very stupid nation. It has to be that or the fact that we do not care about anyone other than ourselves. We are a much poorer nation for both of those reasons than we were when you and I were born. How is it possible after all this time to believe something like that? The combination of stupidity, lack of curiosity and not caring about others is a scary mess.

6. I am SO sick of HIV
I wish they would release the damn cure so we can quit this nonsense...but then the churches wouldn't have "definitive proof" that God hates when we have sex.

9. The power of 10 is a program that uses polls
they did the poll. I saw the result in OUT magazine but can't find an online link.

11. Not surprising.
Our government still send misinformation on how HIV is transmitted. When this came to light, Bill Frist was on "Meet The Press" and refused to clarify whether or not HIV can be transmitted through sweat or tears.

And iirc, just this past year, a child and his family left (or were thrown out?) a trailer park when the child's status was disclosed and the powers that be refused to let the child swim in the community pool.
