BERLIN (Reuters) - U.S. intelligence services were seeking to influence political policy-making with their assessment Iran had halted its nuclear arms program in 2003, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton said.

Der Spiegel magazine quoted Bolton Saturday as saying the aim of the U.S. National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), contradicting his and President George W. Bush's own oft-stated position, was not to provide the latest intelligence on Iran.

"This is politics disguised as intelligence," Bolton was quoted as saying in an article appearing in next week's edition.

Bolton described the NIE, released Monday, as a "quasi-putsch" by the agencies, Der Spiegel said.

Earlier this year Bolton said: "Regime change or the use of force are the only available options to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapons capability, if they want it."

1. My fondest hope regarding John Bolton is that he finds himself walking
through a U.S. city on an afternoon when several -- Several -- lions have escaped from that city's zoo but have not been yet rounded up by the animal rounder-uppers.

In the final scene in this narrative, various city cleaning crews are seen placing Mr. Bolton's remains in large trash bags to cart in to the coroner.

2. Hear comes the spin. Yes, the fact that Iran isn't actively pursuing the bomb means we still have
to take them out. And there will be plenty of people who will buy into it.

3. This man needs to be removed from office. And imprisoned.
What a fucked up individual. He's essentially saying that by releasing the facts about Iran's nuclear program, the NIE put a wrench in the Bush cabal's plan for war with Iran, which was based on lies about Iran's nuclear program. That's incredible. If it's politics, so be it. I'll take the politics of peace over the Bush cabal's politics of trumped-up war any day.

5. That's about the size of it. An individual in need of professional help.
Lying to protect a liar is OK with Bolton.

4. I'd like to believe that I don't hate anyone.....
But if what I feel for Bolton isn't pure hatred, I don't know what it is.

7. and this ass was a diplomat?
Interesting choice of words to use when speaking to a German magazine: 'quasi-putsch'. This word is not commonly used in this country, but has an unfortunate history in Germany. No doubt it was meant to be a dig.
