Does anyone else ever want to just give up hope when talking to Republicans?
I was just over on a music forum, Rhythmism.com, and some freak posted a photo of two drug users about to do you-can-guess-what in an alley. A few posts down, somebody replied to the effect, "I bet those among the ones laughing the hardest at this were among those Democrats who spent the last year protesting against the war."

:wtf:

He went on to say Democrats are rich kids who keep people poor.

Uh-huh. Like Larry Craig isn't a Republican, and the Young Republicans aren't snotty rich brats, and the oil companies and the Saudi monarchy aren't in bed with the G.O.P. :puke:

What a fucking moron. Not only did the photo not have a thing in the world to do with politics or the war, he sounded frankly insane throwing everything at the Democrats out of nowhere.

It's people like him who placed this country in the mess it's in right now.

And who will KEEP this country in a mess unless we make damn sure we get a Dem in office. We can't become complacent.

When I talk to or read of people like that, I feel like I can't BREATHE.

5. Cause Bush Jr. picked himself up by his bootstraps?

His hard childhood formed his decision process and worldview. And it's obvious.

6. "How to talk to Republicans, if you absolutely have to."
"Sit."

"Speak."

"Roll over."

"Play dead."

"Stay."

And walk away.

My dogs are more literate than most of these assholes. Certainly more decent.

Fuck 'em.

7. Good News?
March 2007

A recent survey in the Los Angeles Times, has found that fewer people self-identify as Republicans.

Public allegiance to the Republican Party has plunged during George W. Bush's presidency, as attitudes have edged away from some of the conservative values that fueled GOP political victories, a major survey has found.

The survey, by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, found a "dramatic shift" in political party identification since 2002, when Republicans and Democrats were at rough parity. Now, 50% of those surveyed identified with or leaned toward Democrats, whereas 35% aligned with Republicans.

The survey found that the shift was largely due to the defection of independents from the Republican party.

We are winning the war of ideas.

They have a mental illness that likely runs very deep -- I'm not sure if it can be uprooted at all.

9. I just quit talking to them and cut them out of my life.
Same thing I do with fundie Christians who insist on "sharing their faith" with me, when it's none of their fucking business what my "faith" is.

19. It's the only thing I can do as well. Cut the hardliners out of my life.
The 26% are such "true believers" that no amount of reality can sway them.

I am swimming in schadenfreude with any Repugs dare to lift their snouts above the surface. I'm actually finding that most are keeping low profile.

13. its's not worth the time
Best bet is to let the facts speak for themselves. A failed war, a failed foreign policy, a White House staffed with incompetents and yes-men, and a cooking planet. If they want to stick their head in the sand, fine. Let 'em. The smart ones will come around on their own eventually.

that over the past five or so years, I had come to loose respect for him. I told him we had very little in common anymore.

17. Actually, it gives me hope these days.
One of my best friends was raised in rural USA, unapologetically republican as long as Ive known her, but lately she's been asking me what I think of John Edwards. The GOP field has really disappointed her, and I think she was looking for some advice from me.

I don't know a whole lot of republicans that are pleased with their party right now.

20. Sometimes. Today a repub acquaintance talked with me about Iraq vet kid having problems.
Went to VA to get anti-depressants renewed, was charged $60 for visit/meds. Parent was pissed. Had been up 'til 1 am last night talking to kid who isn't sleeping well, having a hard time adjusting to civilian life. Parent is realizing that the party they've voted for "to keep us safe" is destroying us.

Sometimes I have a hard time. Sometimes it works. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=2443163&mesg_id=2443163
