Saw on TV last night a show saying GHW Bush was nicknamed "Rubbers" |
during his time in Congress because he pushed very hard to get the "pill" legitimized and made available for unmarried women. I would imagine there was a financial interest in there for him because it sure went counter to the rest of the GOP at the time. In 1964 in Mass and Conn it was against the Law for a married couple to practice birth control and punishable with up to fifteen years in the pen..

4. Earlier Bushes helped start Planned Parenthood - the prolife position has always been |
just a political ruse for the working poor and middle class religious voters to distract from the fact that they were voting against themselves and FOR the fascist agenda of the powerful elite.

5. GHWB's mother was a big proponent of family planning and |
making artificial birth control available to women and families. As many things as we hate about Poppy, left to his own beliefs, he would agree with his mom. But the fundies of the 1980's forced him to shift towards being anti-choice when he was with Reagan. So much for standing by principles.

6. Actually, the GOP used to be pretty socially moderate |
Gerald Ford, Nelson Rockefeller, and Dwight Eisenhower were the norm for the GOP.

10. The Bush family has always supported eugenics, i.e., |
birth control for everyone but themselves and their "class." Read up on Prescott Bush (G.H.W.'s father.) I think George Walker, Barbara Bush's dad, was pro-eugenics as well.
