The result is collapsing bridges and failed levees in places like New Orleans and an old power grid that can black out cities like New York.

At this point, it's difficult to count. It's one of the largest expenditures the US government has outside of Social Security and Medicare. If we spent on education like we spend on war, we'd be the smartest people in the world, but we're not because we don't spend that much on education.
