I need to know what

separation of church and state means to you.....

to me it means

I believe in ...... (whatever)
but as a candidate
I WILL NOT SHOVE THIS DOWN AMERICAS THROAT!!!!!

You believe what you want....
I believe what I want..
but my policies will NOT be based on my religion....

FUCK could you imagine what our Government would be like if
they followed this credo?????

but we know better.... some people think their religion and beliefs are
"BETTER" then mine..... or yours

and that is just wrong....
no its FUCKING WRONG.....

so who is tolerant??
who is progressive??
not as many as we think........
there are to many people here that think
ITS MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY!!!!

yeah real tolerant.......

5. also
having grown up in a state that practiced religious discrimination on a widespread basis where I lived

I can tell you that I am so against a state religion, a theocracy, or even the mixing of church with any aspect of state.

i went to a cub scout meeting, and while i know that they are probably some kind of religious organization, it ticked me off that we basically put our little boys in uniforms, and teach them to mix christianity with what they are doing in scouts.

it struck me that it is no wonder that people don't grow up understanding the reason for separation of church and state.

i'm glad to live in a country that was built on the principles of that separation and it scares the shit out of me to hear fundies talking about "biblical law" or putting the 10 commandments in place as law.

:grr:

I still say

great post lost

2. Those are the exact reasons the founders
put separation of church in state in the constitution..because they were aware of what happens when the church and state are one. They remembered Bloody Mary. They remembered the Spanish Inquisition.

3. It means religion stays in the bedroom, alongside your kinky sex fetishes.
Don't take it out unless you're asked.

10. What? Religion should be like sexuality. PRIVATE.
Going to church every week is like putting on a bumper sticker. It's a "look at me" social event that has nothing to do with spritual worship.

Keep both in the bedroom, and hell, mix the two occasionally. You'll feel better for it.

6.  Here are bedfellows:
Extreme "Christian" belief; government; military agenda; corporate empire; education; media; and I'm sure that more can be listed.

Sadly these things are related, corrupted and manipulated to uphold a way of life; a dominant culture. All other cultures in such a polluted social structure sadly take a back-seat.

An individual's personal beliefs are just that, personal. The functioning of a government in a free society must allow freedom of personal belief, and allow the government to function completely free from those beliefs. There is no reason to mingle them. Law can function without religion. Morals are not confined to any one belief system or religion.
