It is Unconceivable That The Senate Might Pass A FISA Bill With Immunity For The Phone Companies |
|
Edited on Fri Dec-14-07 08:53 PM by ThomWV
I just can not say anything more than this madness will never stop if this is all the fight that is in the Democratic Party.

34. I defend the party all the time, but |
|
I couldn't defend them for allowing a FISA bill with weaker protections than the Judiciary Committee included to pass.
I could understand the telecoms getting immunity if in return Bush consented to cooperating with all Senate probes.
The telecoms were asked by the government to do what they did. If the phone companies were little people instead of big corporations the fact that the government asked them to break the law would be considered by the public to be a mitigating factor.
I'm still opposed to immunity because they broke the law. I think though that the Bush cabal should be added as a defendant in the suits.

2. Totally depressing that Reid caved. |
|
I believe that the Senate Dems will give Bush what he wants until the election so that Republicans cannot use any vote by the Dems against the Democratic nominee.

14. Well that's my problem. I don't think it will matter. With our leadership in the Senate seeming to |
|
want the approval of republicans and of the asshats in the media, which is with few exception right wing I don't see things changing. Even if a democrat wins. Like I said I hope the day comes when the tide finally turns, but the track record sucks. It really sucks right now.

13. Sucks to be in a two-party system, but we really have no other party to vote for. |
|
If we did vote for another party, we risk splitting the vote and handing victory to the Republicans.

We don't have to always vote for the incumbent. Primaries are our chance to get Dems from the Democratic wing of the party.

Not good odds for the challenger in general, and it's acting like a log jam in the river of change. I'm not talking about presidential races but congress in general. I favored systems of representation that allow many parties to hold seats in congress. Proportional representation is one example. There are systems that combine elements of that with elements of our system forming mixed systems, like mixed-member proportional representation such as the one Germany utilizes for its Bundestag or the two-round system France uses for its General Assembly.

It's was one thing when it was the pubs against you. You knew your enemy, it wasn't pleasant, but you could deal with it. When your enemy is your own side, what the hell now? It's like finding out the cops are crooked in your town. Now you're fighting both the cops and the robbers.

16. AT&T is HOT on the Stock Market now. Remember they do the "I-Phone" |
|
Sole Provider.... Lots of Apple "I-Phone" buyers are kind of upset about this deal.
They have profited well by giving Bushies what they wanted. Dems don't want to look like they are against "American Telecoms," so they will cave.
They are the Party of Clintons and DLC....NOT ALL...but MANY of our DEMS in Congress...and Harry Reid is run by Nevada. Many of our Dem Senators are so DLC/BIG BUSINESS/NAFTA/DEREGULATION that they can't separate anything out. And they don't honor what our Progressive Dems in the HOUSE Send them in Bills.
Remember that House Dems voted AGAINST IMMUNITY for AT&T. It's Reid and the Dems there who will do the dirty deed of canning it so Bush gets what he wants for those who spyed on their customers. :-(

If the fucking telecoms did nothing wrong, why do they need immunity? Unless they did do something wrong!? Gee, ya think they are doing it to protect their own ass from something we don't yet know about!?

22. Corporate Dollars Have A Lot To Do With Dems Caving On Telcom Immunity |
|
And John Edwards is right about the entrenched corporate interests in Washington DC and their grip on a rigged system.
This is just indefensible. You NEVER GIVE IMMUNITY unless and until you FIRST KNOW EVERYTHING and that has not happened here.
