An observation on a possible Clinton/Huckabee matchup (unlikely to happen still) |
|
If those two were nominated, might we see the disintegration of the two party system? As is evident by the posters here on DU, Hillary doesn't exactly have the support of the Democratic base. And if you dare venture over to Freeperland, they despise Huckleberry as much as Clinton is despised here.
Is there a chance of the parties breaking down in such a matchup?

1. I think the only candidate who could really cause a fracture is Rudy. |
|
I think a large chunk of the Reps would be tempted to walk.

5. And after he is destoryed then what? |
|
A witch hunt on what went wrong. And if the Fundies blame it on sabotage form within (as Dems are want to do) ... then?

4. If the Republican establishment really lose control of the GOP to the Fundies |

a split is on the cards - particularly if the Fundies blame Huck's demise on undermining from within.
If Clinton is the nominee, there IS a chance that the haters and Fundies will carve out a new landscape IMHO.
I don't see the establishment relinquishing the party, by hook or by crook, anytime soon. However, if the hard money people desert for Clinton, it will be interesting, to put it mildly - even FDR didn't get that.

6. Huckleberry just revealed today that he's been lying about having a college degree |

in theology--repeatedly, in debates and speeches, for months. Yikes. Add that to everything else, and the man is a walking disaster of a candidate. Charm has taken him pretty far, but I have no fears whatsoever of him as the R nominee.

8. not so. If she's the nominee, it will simply mean that more dems |
|
voted for her in the primaries than any other democrat. It's that simple, but hey, if you want to run with paranoia, feel free.
