What would have happened if...?

The Senate had called Bush's bluff? If they had sent the $50 billion or whatever was in their initial budget and Bush vetoed it? What if they let it simmer for a week or two and then sent the same bill back to him? Could he veto it again and say they were not funding the troops? It is doubtful. They could have easily said the money is there for the troops and Bush is the one blocking it because he does not know how to compromise. Then send it back to him a third time... What would have happened?

1. I think Bush would have buckled

his excuses for what he does are wearing thin. Almost everyone now knows he is a liar.

2. They could have sent it back a third time if he vetoed it...

with the comments that the money is there for the troops. It is up to the President whether or not he wants to fund the troops. End of story.

4. I am just dismayed that the Senate never even tried..

They simply surrendered. I think Harry will be challenged for the leadership after the next election. And I would not be surprised to see Nancy challenged also....if she survives her primary?

5. I would hope both will be challenged

When our Democrat is in the White House, it will be even more important that the Congressional leaders take a firm hand when dealing with the Republicans, who will be fighting everything done. We need someone who can articulate the facts about the Republican agenda, too, not just someone who bows and scrapes to them.

It would be nice but it takes two to tango.
