Seems we're sure Top 3 can beat the Rethugs, right? BUT....
If my memory serves, and that's never a guarantee, we were sure Kerry would win. I remember going psychotic Election Night 2004 when it was becoming evident that was going south. I felt myself going into a clinical depression around 3am, I believe that was around the time John Edwards came out to calm the masses.

I think I went to bed around 5:30am-5:45am.

Then sat and cried when he conceded.

Maybe I'm trying to speak for much too many people, but I was absolutely convinced he was going to win, I was like a giddy fool the whole day, we bought all kinds of celebratory goodies, had champagne at the ready...

Now I'm wondering if I'm lulling myself into false hope again, will they pull a fast one yet again? It's never over till it's over?

I don't think I'm sure of anything anymore.

1. If the Dems can't win in '08 they should take up another line of work.
Even given the Dems well practiced ability to lose. The Republicans have become so discredited, so disliked, so scandal ridden, that the Democrats are going to have to really exert themselves to lose against them.

But, I thought that the American people could never be stupid enough to elect Ronald Reagan or Boobya.

2. I was giddy the entire election season.
I had the original "Wild Wild West" theme song in my head. I even downloaded it. It had an uplifting & spirited affect on me. On election day I worked as an election judge & got home around 9:30. Kerry had just taken PA. However, about 20 minutes after that it all started going south. By 11:30 I was drunk & crying & I called in sick the next day. I have not listened to the "Wild Wild West" song since then.

I too, worry about '08. We will have to have a landslide election that even election machine shenanigans can't overcome. But then, I thought we had that in '04.

3. I was convinced they'd steal it but had some hope left. When I awoke the next day, I broke down and
sobbed. It was so awful.

5. Any Dem nominee who'll distance him/herself from the GOP will win. Period.
We don't have to pick one of the 'safe' candidates.

6. I was destroyed for weeks after 2004...

Thank God I found DU in late November, which saved my sanity. It was especially hard on me because I am a huge Kerry fan and wasn't just voting against **. That election was a tragedy for our country, just like 2000.

9. My friends think Im paranoid or need anti psychotic meds or something...
they just don't follow it all like we do. They think Im a conspiracy tinfoil hat wearing nutcase, they just accept 2000 and 2004 and go on with their lives.

Im not trying to be a downer or throw a black blanket on everyone, but it's always in the back of my mind. I dont care who our nominee is, they could be up in the polls against any rethug 90-10, I still dont trust it. My sister in law actually said to me 'but Rove is gone'. I almost laughed myself into a seizure.

When I think of 2000, my most vivid memory is slamming the TV off at 2:30am and telling my husband 'you have NO idea how things are gonna change', and 2004 is just a blur of crying, drinking, cursing, screaming and anger.

I still have the champagne I bought for 2000 and 2004.

Like someone said in this thread, with all the failure, lying, scandals, failure of war, unecessary dead, bin Laden, torture. cover-ups, etc., etc., could they DARE steal it and it hold up in the country's eyes??

10. You should worry, because we are never realistic. We don't understand the body politic. We can't see
beyond the the next headline. We don't plan for a run up the middle (Bloomberg). We don't know that many people want someone to make decisions for them. We are not honest with ourselves and say certain candidates will never be accepted. We don't pick a fighter.

How we will win is beyond me, only luck will save us from ourselves.

12. Complacency and over confidence
will put us right back in the state of shock and unbridled anger we felt in 2000 and 2004. Someone is bound to tell me I'm a downer and going overboard but history must have taught us something.

11. I was saying on 04 in voice chat you guys are getting over confident.....
... nothing in life is certain and I think America got complacent that it was a walk over some just probably stayed at home thinking the game was in the bag. It's work work work till we're there and push push push to get the Demcrats away from conservatism.

13. Kerry never had much of a lead in the polls
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/bush_vs_kerry.html

Our chances look much better this time. Whether the ticket will inspire the same level of grassroots support is questionable, however.
