Obama could pick Hagel (R) as running mate
http://action3news.com/Global/story.asp?S=7499820

Omaha, NE.- Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel's name has surfaced once again in the race for the White House.

But this time it's with the Democrats.

For months the speculation has been that Hagel would run as an independent with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg; Bloomberg at the top of the ticket, Hagel his vice-president.

But now its Hagel and Democrat Barack Obama; Obama of course has campaigned as the candidate for change.

So now there's speculation that if Obama wins the Democrat nomination, real change would find him naming a Republican as his running mate.

A Republican, like Hagel, who has been constantly critical of the Bush administration's handling of the War in Iraq.

National political columnist Roger Simon says Obama could pick Hagel as his number two, and Hagel would "reach out to anti-war Republicans."

Senator Hagel isn't commenting on any of this, and if it sounds far fetched that Hagel could go to the Democratic convention next year as the Vice-Presidential candidate, keep this in mind.

In the last few days Hagel joined a Washington think tank known as the American Security Project.

1. Well, he "could". But he won't. Clinton "could" pick Poppy Bush as Sec of State.
But she won't. See how that game is played?

4. That's ridiculous! So because he's a member of a national security think tank
qualifies him to be the Democratic VP nominee? He opposes the war, but practically everything else Democrats stand for.

The American Security Project was started by Senator Kerry.

5. Yeah, and he could do something stupid enough to make me
leave that particular spot on the ballot blank. Picking Hagel (R-fetus nut) would be one of them.

Face it, conservatives are OVER. They have fucked up this country for 38 years and we don't need to give them another crack at it.

6. McCain could pick Liebermann
Edited on Sat Dec-22-07 04:33 PM by gulliver
It would be kind of interesting to see the Obama/Hagel ticket take on the McCain/Liebermann ticket. Both parties would be in for a rough ride.

8. Well that does it for me!! I'm definitely NOT voting for Obama now!!!!
not that I ever was, but I couldn't resist poking a little fun at the posters who reacted that way when Kucinich's wife
uttered the words "Ron Paul" as a possible running mate for Dennis.

15. Two differences:
1. Kucinich himself said he was thinking about picking Ron Paul.
2. Nobody in the Obama campaign has suggested this. This is just ridiculous guesswork.

11. What does Obama say about this?
I hope he's not considering Hagel as a running mate. Except for the war, Hagel is a staunch republican. Check his voting record for details.

Hagel voted yes in the Clinton impeachment fiasco, which still pisses me off.

but those things are just rumors. This meant, of course, to sway dyed-in-the-wool Democrats into distancing themselves from Obama in the primaries.

But this dyed-in-the-wool Democrat is not buying the rumor game.

25. Oh, I can't believe you posted that!
That Yiddish expression is something my father always said! I can't say it in Yiddish (I can only get the bubbe, beytzim, and zadie parts) ... but, indeed ...

If your grandmother had balls, she'd be your grandfather.

Better than monkeys flying out of your butt, anyday.

Thanks for the memories!

20. Obama could name Nailzberg his running mate.
But it's really fucking unlikely.

Let's take a look at this "report". The reporter, Joe Jordan, cites an article from Politico's Roger Simon as proof of this speculation.

If you read the original Roger Simon piece, speculating on who would be Obama's number two Simon himself calls the entire exercise irresponsible. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1207/7304.html
But you’ll know the press is really taking Obama seriously when it starts speculating on whom he wants for his vice president. So let's start speculating even though it is irresponsibly early to do so. (As always, we ask ourselves the question: If we are not irresponsible, who will be?)

Simon also discusses the possibility of Oprah, Al Gore, and Michael Bloomberg. The article doesn't take any of these "possibilities" seriously.

23. Is Hagel ready to leave the dark side?
Unlike most Repugs, Hagel strikes me as a decent guy. Wouldn't want to see him as Obama's running mate, but I'd love to see him ditch the dark side.

and get along with "the other side". He's a moderate, so I suppose there is a remote chance he could pick Hagel.

would vote for it just to see how it works--the Repubs would be plain old conventional, we'd have some excitement on our side. Plus, Hagel's got military service and tons of foreign policy, finance/banking and exec experience. Besides, Hagel has already said he'd gladly serve in a Dem administration. If the R nominee is McCain, this might be the way to go... :hide:
