Does this mean that the surge is working?
STANBUL, Turkey - Turkish warplanes bombed Kurdish rebel targets in northern Iraq on Saturday in the third confirmed cross-border offensive by Turkish forces in less than a week, the military said.

The U.S. Embassy in Ankara said it was informed before the assault took place, but gave no further information. The United States and Iraq both have urged Turkey to avoid a major operation in the area, fearing it could destabilize what has been the calmest region in Iraq.

The bombing lasted nearly a half-hour on Saturday afternoon, and was followed by shelling from inside Turkish borders, the military said in a statement posted on its Web site. It did not say how deep into Iraqi territory the warplanes penetrated, or which areas were shelled.

2. It's okay to bomb the poster children for Saddam's oppression...
and hence one of the many justifications for Lil' G's war......cuz the 'rebel' kurds are pinko-commie-leftists!

4. Take your choice
A. Yes, the surge is working! Now we have to stay and re-double our efforts.

B. No, the surge is not working. Now we have to stay and re-double our efforts.

Note: In place of "surge," please substitute whatever the latest administration scheme is that's being perpetrated on the public.

8. The truth can now be told.
Why does everyone pretend they do not know why the violence has dropped in Iraq? The answer is money - lots of money. The $200 billion dollars in supplemental that the Bush coaxed the Democrats into giving him is the reason the violence has dropped.

General Petraeus and the "surge" had little to do with the drop in violence. It is the change in overall strategy. They decided that Maliki was no longer going to unite the country and that their intent was to ethnically cleanse Baghdad and other communities around Bagdad of all the Sunni enclaves.

So, the US decided to give money, lots of money, to the Sunni tribal leaders and clerics to keep them from attacking the Shia and the Americans. It has worked in that aspect.

However, it has failed as far as getting the Shia to agree to it. The latest pronouncement by the Shia government indicates they have no intention of permitting the Sunni any independence at all. They will work with the Shia government or else. That is the actual situation on the ground as of today. The "surge" had very little to do with it.
