in suggesting, yesterday evening, that the elections in Pakistan should be postponed since there are no heirs to Bhutto.
Earlier, and I don't recall whether it was on Olbermann or on Matthews, a former intelligence woman suggested the same thing, saying that there is no need for elections since we already know what the results will be.
I don't understand the calls, by others, for Musharraf to step down. He was elected by his voters and who are we to tell other people who should be their elected official?
And let's not kid ourselves. If he is off, and if there is no strong, capable democratic opposition party, we can end up with a theocracy. As with other religions, it is the extremes, who do take care of the poor and the sick, who do provide schools, health care, food and shelter do capture the hearts and minds of many voters.

1. Was Musharraf elected? I thought he took over in a coup, and wanted |

the elections to legitimize his Presidency. Anyway, I actually thought Dodd answered better than Biden--Biden insisted on holding elections right away, and insisted that Bhutto would have won, so his theory was that ANYONE from her party could be put forth and would defeat Musharraf or an extremist candidate. Not so sure about that.

But he has been elected since. In the same manner Saddam used to be elected.
Bush got him in a suit, and all of a sudden he is 'elected'

5. TheRealNews.com has some stories on the future of democracy in Pakistan |
|
http://www.therealnews.com/web/index.phpCheck it out, they put out some high quality stuff. Much more in-depth than you'll get from CNN or maybe even NPR. And throw a donation their way if you like it, they are trying to set up an alternative to our piss poor media.
