18. Alive or Dead, Bin Laden is a Valuable Commodity.

Whatever the case, he's the bogeyman they'll continue to use to terrorize U.S.. They may even get or manufacture another large-scale attack or two they can lay at his feet while any canned messages attributed to him will continue to carry weight. Anyone else notice that his last release had the production quality of an elementary school play, not a single frame of which could be confirmed as "new information"? Old footage, voice-overs, tons of stills, dubious sound quality and even more questionable content. I can't wait until the next one comes out. After yesterday, I need a laugh.

If he's dead and unreported:
1) No martyr status to rally Al Qaeda and attract new converts, but no Bin Laden to rally Al Qaeda and attract new converts.
2) No push to leave the M.E., 'cause we haven't yet won until we've got Bin Laden.
3) The administration can use his image and voice for propoganda purposes as long and as they like, or until they're busted.
4) Plausible deniability and a continued opportunity to blame any and all incidents and planning on Bin Laden, personally.
5) No ongoing threat to the Saudi Royals or their government.

I probably missed a couple of really good points, so feel free to pile 'em on.

If not him, they'll probably grab someone out of the gulag they created to use.

"If he's dead and unreported:..." It's the "unreported" that bothers me too. If he were dead, there would be such moaning, droning, screaming, wailing, flogging themselves, from his people that _someone, somewhere_ would have heard or seen them and told their family, closest friend, and the story would have gotten out. I can't believe they _could_ keep this a secret. They couldn't give martyr status to their boy Bin, without at least one proud fellow murderer shooting his gun and mouth off. "I lived with him. I lived in his camp, I washed his feet" whatever!

Then again, why was the new Binny looking soooo different? Dyed hair and beard, supposedly the same voice. An actor perhaps?
