Pak intel apparently knew for several weeks of the plot...
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/IL29Df01.html

On December 6, a Pakistani intelligence agency tracked a cell phone conversation between a militant leader and a local cleric, in which a certain Maulana Asadullah Khalidi was named. The same day, Khalidi was arrested during a raid in Karachi. The arrest, in turn, led to the arrest of a very high-profile non-Pakistani militant leader, which, it is said, revealed an operation aimed at wiping out “precious American assets” in Pakistan, including Musharraf and Bhutto.

1. Amazing that all this is suddenly known, but wasn't known before the assassination.
How does that work?

4. Bhutto knew about it
in her interview with David Frost (in political vids) she discusses this very situation. That's why she sent the email that Blitzer eventually got - she blamed Musharref for not providing enough protection, but she also gave him names of financiers that she thought were behind the attacks against her.

Maybe the reason it's not known here is that people weren't paying attention.

In his excellent book, After the Empire, Emmanuel Todd talked about how the left in the U.S. gives the govt. of this country too much credit - as tho everything that happens in the world is controlled by them. It seems like that's the case now with Bhutto's death. If she believed the biggest threat to her were the fundies, how do so many here "know" otherwise?

Has anyone here who always credits/blames U.S. agency for everything ever thought that you are creating an unreasonable fear? Or that you are engaging in a form of "orientalism" and "mental colonialism" when you insist that no one other than the U.S. is capable of acting in their own interests? Or that the fundies in the region are a real issue? Why do some here think they know more about the issues in Pakistan than Bhutto?
