In this sleight-of-hand we call elections, while most of the public focuses on the candidates at the table, without the hard work of the voting rights/election integrity community, democracy sneaks up the magician's sleeve.

Presidential candidates rake in millions in donations that will be used only for their own campaigns. Meanwhile, hundreds of voting rights/election integrity advocates work their fingers to the bone, most for no pay, to do their best to ensure that the candidate supported by most voters will be able to take office! (Radical, I know.) The movement that has managed to raise the consciousness of the nation about the evils of secret vote-counting and turn the tide against electronic voting machines is largely made up of small organizations where every dollar donated goes a long way.

Please consider end-of-year donations to one or more of these fine organizations (listed in alphabetical order), or to another voting rights/election integrity group of your choice:

The cynic in me says it will sink, because it is non-controversial and doesn't get people's "juices" flowing.

This is the kind of useful post that should, in an ideal world, get 100 recs and 200 comments.

We are all conditioned now to the yes/no one/zero he-said/she-said of the Bushiganda template. It is part of the air in which we breathe, part of our natural surroundings.

Even when we think we defend against it, we can't, because it is designed to work on our subconscious beyond our defenses. I include myself in with everyone else here, I am no better than anyone.
