Women are "welcome" to breastfeed during services at our local Unitarian church |
|
Would this bother you? It would be fine with me.
Yum, yum.

1. Women are welcome to do the same at my UU church. |

Edited on Sun Dec-30-07 03:50 PM by Island Blue
There are even a couple of rocking chairs to use for that purpose. Or, just to rock a baby. Or, just to rock. Edited to say (since you ask): It doesn't bother me at all. Of course I'm not really in the habit of looking around to see who's doing what during the service anyway.

3. I like how they mention it right on their newcomers' page |
|
In the past, some people on here have had a problem with it, when it's done publicly.
:eyes:
The rocking chairs are a cool idea!

2. I nursed both of ours during church more than once. |
|
We're Eastern Orthodox. I wore nursing clothes, and it wasn't a problem.
I don't see the problem.

4. So long as those being fed can't grow pubic hair, I'm fine with it. |
|
Really, I wouldn't even mind that so much, but then I don't care much about what people do so long as they don't hurt others in the process.

Your subject line made me laugh so loud Haruka asked what was so funny (she's taking a break from Guitar Hero and watching some semi-dumb movie with Keven Costner and Ashton Kutcher).

7. Does the church hold its services at Olive Garden? |
|
If not, then I have no problem with this.
For that matter, I have no problem with breastfeeding in general, and the whole flap about it is a mystery to me.

And I think it's fine.
We are open, accepting, and affirming. And most UU's reject the Nicene Creed. We tend to focus on the birth of Yeshua as opposed to a bloody death and resurrection(?).
And most that I meet with each Sunday? We hold a true value that all human beings are equal, especially our tiniest and most precious ones. What's wrong with breast feeding a little member of our Potluck Church during service?
Psssst - Neither the church I converted to UU'ism in, nor the one I attend now has a 'crying' room. So where do our youngest members go whose parents want them to gather every Sunday with people who come from all walks of life, all shades of human skin tones, heterosexuals and homosexuals. . .
Half kidding here - but how do honestly say we are open and affirming if we aren't open and affirming to women and their children?

have a crying infant on an airline flight? No problem, just whip out a nipple and voila- you've got instant silence- well, except for the noisy little slurps that a baby lets out. It is so natural, I don't know why people freak over it. Now, I always put a light blanket over us, for modesty, which worked fine, except for when my child played around with her hand while feeding, possibly exposing us.

Most folks know that breast is best (unless there is a reason the mother can't, and that happens)?

20. Babies, whether bottle or breastfed, are almost always excluded from that rule |
|
Also, in most states, if it is legal for both the mother and baby to be someplace, it is legal for the mother to breastfeed the baby there.
