White supremacist activity in US flourishes, fueled by anti-immigrant sentiments

NEW YORK: Huge street protests against tougher immigration laws made millions of immigrants more visible and powerful in the United States last year, but, according to some rights groups, they seem to have revived a hateful counter force: white supremacists.

Groups linked to the Ku Klux Klan, skinheads and neo-Nazis grew significantly more active, holding more rallies, distributing leaflets and increasing their presence on the Internet — much of it focused on stirring anti-immigrant sentiment, a new report released by the Anti-Defamation League says. snip

Historically, the Klan's focus had been to terrorize African-Americans — through race riots, lynchings and other killings — but it reached its highest membership in the 1920s by focusing on immigration.

Newcomers from Ireland and Germany were portrayed as Catholic usurpers invading the United States, taking jobs from native-born Americans and undermining national fabric, Levin said.

Said Potok: "It's remarkable to look back at the nativist sentiments toward Catholics — it's very similar to what we're seeing with Mexicans now."

1. Oh yes, On the History Channel

last week was featured a very good documentary expressing
this very thought--Increase in Klan Activity.

The Documentary highlighted a specific group in Alabama,
illustrating how Skinheads (younger) are joining the
Klan. Furthermore, they are using the AlQaeds model for
organizing. Instead of the traditional hierarchal model
they are developing smaller groups(cells). AlQaeda does
this to avoid detection. This Klan group were meeting
right out in the open. Law Enforcement apparently knows
where they are--one of the leaders home was raided and
ransacked a couple of times. This particular group "hate
of the Moment" seemed to be Hispanics(Mexicans). Anti-Jewish
and Anti-Catholic comments were made a couple of times.

What hit me in the face, so to speak' was when this one
younger man( who had Nazi and Hitler posters decorating
his room) looked up at a likeness of Hitler, and said
so convincingly--"I wish he had won the war".

The other thing that stunned me--was their ceremonial
burning of the American Flag. This is a change.
Klan used to get bent out of joint over "Radicals on the
left" burning flags. This tells me they are not only
growing in size but burning the flag ceremoniously and
then stomping it. Times they are a changing.

2. They are dangerous punks, really.

They are basically gangs of white guys no different than your inner city gangs and just as lawless. The big difference is that their hangouts are rural rather than urban because they can keep weapons and hide out in those places.
