Over at Jim Robinson's FreeRepublic....
...they are leaping with rapturous glee over the release of this poll. Unfortunately, they are insane as usual as the polling source, Public Opinion Strategies (POS), is a Republican funded political and public affairs research firm with its roots in political campaigns. Obvious to the reality based is that this outfit may just slightly skew the results; unobvious to the brick stupid is that they are being SCREWN!!!!!!!1111 again.

The hilarity continues here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1788167/posts

POLL: AMERICANS 'WANT TO WIN IN IRAQ'
Drudge ^ | Feb 20 2007

POLL: AMERICANS 'WANT TO WIN IN IRAQ' Tue Feb 20 2007 16:21:32 ET

In the wake of the U.S. House of Representatives passing a resolution that amounts to a vote of no confidence in the Bush administration's policies in Iraq, a new national survey by Alexandria, VA-based Public Opinion Strategies (POS) shows the American people may have some different ideas from their elected leaders on this issue.

The survey was conducted nationwide February 5-7 among a bi-partisan, cross-section of 800 registered voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent. The survey was commissioned by The Moriah Group, a Chattanooga-based strategic communications and public affairs firm.

The survey shows Americans want to win in Iraq, and that they understand Iraq is the central point in the war against terrorism and they can support a U.S. strategy aimed at achieving victory, said Neil Newhouse, a partner in POS. The idea of pulling back from Iraq is not where the majority of Americans are.

By a 53 percent - 46 percent margin, respondents surveyed said that Democrats are going too far, too fast in pressing the President to withdraw troops from Iraq.

By identical 57 percent - 41 percent margins, voters agreed with these statements: I support finishing the job in Iraq, that is, keeping the troops there until the Iraqi government can maintain control and provide security and the Iraqi war is a key part of the global war on terrorism.

Also, by a 56 percent - 43 percent margin, voters agreed that even if they have concerns about his war policies, Americans should stand behind the President in Iraq because we are at war.

While the survey shows voters believe (60 percent- 34 percent) that Iraq will never become a stable democracy, they still disagree that victory in Iraq (creating a young, but stable democracy and reducing the threat of terrorism at home) is no longer possible. Fifty-three percent say it's still possible, while 43 percent disagree.

By a wide 74 percent - 25 percent margin, voters disagree with the notion that "I don't really care what happens in Iraq after the U.S. leaves, I just want the troops brought home."

Public Opinion Strategies "scored the best win-loss record among the major polling and media firms in the 2004 election" and was named Pollster of the Year in 2002.

It's about time someone sorted this out (Hello RNC!).

It may be true that "70 percent are unpleased with the war", but this goes to show that a large number of Americans are "unpleased" because we are not kicking butt, and playing a PC war.

Are we finally going to place a murder warrant on al Sadr, to prevent him from entering Iraq ever again?

Hmmm. That (above) is what the media keep telling us, and my congresscoward keeps telling us.

I was going to give him a break from emailing him articles showing he's wrong, but since I am in Tennessee, and this poll was done by a Chattanooga firm, guess I'll send him one more today.

It is possible, using sophisticated statistical demographics (no relation to the Democrat Party) to come very close to what the global public opinion may be.
I'd like to see corroborating poll by another organization, with maybe a bit bigger sample, but these guys (POS...lol) have a darn good track record.

But I keep hearing democrat politicos on tv stating that the US population are against the war.
The Dumbs misread the polls. Sure people are getting sick of hearing about the war because there's been little to cheer about, at least from the MSM.

But at the same time, polls have been showing this same message: the American public doesn't want us to lose the war, either. That 56% - 43% figure in favor of a win has been showing up for a number of weeks. Evidently nobody noticed it.

15. "Americans have never lost and never will lose a war"
I suppose The Blitherer never heard about that war I was in.

Or maybe DoD simply forgot to mail my trophy.

What a bunch of idiots.

16. Who could be so FUCKING stupid as to not realize that something like this:
By a wide 74 percent - 25 percent margin, voters disagree with the notion that "I don't really care what happens in Iraq after the U.S. leaves, I just want the troops brought home."

is an absurdly loaded and self-fulfilling question?

...Oh, I forgot. We're talking about Freeps here.

And we're "The dumbs?"

17. My experience with statistics and polling...
is limited to a few classes I took as an undergraduate, but it strikes me that these questions are loaded in such a way as to be biased in favor of the right.

I support finishing the job in Iraq, that is, keeping the troops there until the Iraqi government can maintain control and provide security and the Iraqi war is a key part of the global war on terrorism.

The first part of the question (...finishing the job...) seems loaded to me because who likes to leave a job unfinished? It presupposes that Iraq is a job that needs finishing. The rest of the question is similarly loaded, as even if you don't agree with the first part (keeping the troops there) you still might agree with the second (key part of the global war on terrorism).

Also, by a 56 percent - 43 percent margin, voters agreed that even if they have concerns about his war policies, Americans should stand behind the President in Iraq because we are at war.

This question is really a values question rather than a question regarding current feelings. It's asking if one should stand behind the president in a time of war - which would yield biased results.

By a wide 74 percent - 25 percent margin, voters disagree with the notion that "I don't really care what happens in Iraq after the U.S. leaves, I just want the troops brought home."

This is probably the most blatant example, IMO. Most of us, I think, would disagree with this sentiment. I feel that we tend to care more about what happens to Iraq than the other side of the aisle does which is why we want the troops brought home. Also, the question makes the assumption that the situation will precipitously deteriorate if the troops are taken out of Iraq, which is simply speculation.

In other words, this poll stinks.

18. What an irrelevant question
The poll is evoking a common, though false, dichotomy. We tend to think of wars as having clearcut winners and losers, when in reality it's usually far less definite. The winning side of a war can amass extensive loss of life and treasury. Of course, that polling company is never going to ask Americans how many deaths and injuries would be acceptable to ensure that victory. And the United States could win any war it got into if it chose to take the most extreme, i.e. nuclear, measures. How many Americans would support that?

But that doesn't mean they're not willing to pull out if it's not going to happen. To be honest, there are no winners in a war.

We didn't win their hearts. We never will. They do not want us or "our" way of life. Not freeper, not liberal. They want us to go home.

All we do is kill their children and ours.
