The young folks finally got involved ? |
|
For years, we have lamented that the young folks need to take to the streets and get involved. They were not like us when we were young. Now, it seems that this may be the election that they finally get involved. However, they may not be involved in the way that we would prefer?
It seems to me, and this is just a simple impression, that most of the new young voters are leaning toward either Obama or Ron Paul, depending on their political leanings? Finally, the young generation may have decided to take control of their destinies? If either of these candidates win their primary or caucus, I think this will be the case.

1. I don't see Paul winning anything. |
|
Though if he hangs in long enough, maybe he'll decide to run Libertarian or something. That'd be sweet, as it would all but guarantee a Dem. victory.
I agree that Obama and Paul are definitely the benefactors of the youth vote, whatever it may be, but as one is the Dem. frontrunner in Iowa while the other is polling at around 10 percent behind a packed Republican field, I think that's pretty much where the comparison ends.

2. When I was young, there were VERY FEW REPUBLICANS in my peer group.... |
|
Even if they harbored GOP views, they didn't admit it publicly.
Now, there are a shitload of them--and they're PROUD of it, too, the selfish little shits!!!

and worried that if the warmongers start bombing Iran they will more than likely be drafted so for that alone they are paying attention. Thats what I'm seeing anyway around here.

6. Nothing like a personal interest to get one involved... |
|
And that was a big part of the people in the streets in the '60's...

it was the people in the streets in the '60 who pulled the plug on the Vietnam carnage and it'll be the same this time. Our congress critters aren't going to do anything, I guess they are all to compromised to offer us a hand. Oh well we done it once and we can do it again, stop a war that is.

5. They got involved in 2004 |
|
At this time in 2004, my son was in Iowa working for Dean.
He took his whole Xmas break from college in WA state to do it.
First time he was ever political.
