Do you have something to say about a new party and what it stands for? Many people who would ordinarily be consuming the words of regular TV writers might lend you their ears.

1. I've thought if a GOPer third party (like Hagel) jumped in...AND we had a corporate
leaning candidate running as a Dem, then the time would be right. imho.

I hate to see the Democratic split, but we have to have a voice for the people and not just the powerful.

2. I agree-it would have to split both ways
republicans would have to split and we would have to split.

3. I agree. There should be a pure whatever party to compete for votes from Republicans.

4. No.
But kudos to you for using "pure" and "political party" in the same sentence.

5. The new party would need to be a majority party or the GOP would need to be a marginal party
Probably not going to happen by '08. Failing that, in our winner-take-all system, a new progressive party would doubtless be a marginal party at the start--this neonatal party would split the progressive vote and would very likely result in a GOP victory. We don't have to tools to build a new majority party by '08. We -can- however do everything possible to make the GOP a marginal party in '08, which would open up our options considerably.
