On January 11, 2008, the ACLU is calling on everyone opposed to GTMO to WEAR ORANGE!
Edited on Wed Jan-02-08 06:15 PM by Up2Late

JANUARY 11, 2008, is the six-year anniversary of the first arrival of prisoners at Guantánamo Bay.

On January 11, we are calling on everyone opposed to torture and indefinite detention to WEAR ORANGE to symbolize their sadness and disgust with the national shame that is Guantánamo Bay.

Download the CLOSE GUANTÁNAMO Toolkit now to find out how you can organize for January 11 at home, in your office, on campus, in your community, and online.

1. Hot dang!
Ever since I let my hair go its natural color, I can wear orange. I'll be proudly decked out in my orange jacket that day.

My Irish family will probably rotate in their graves, but after all this time they need the exercise.

2. Oh, think of all those anti-communists who proudly live in red states.
The meanings of colors are not immutable.

5. Well, someone might just have to set up a Cafe Press account to sell some T-Shirts or something
Maybe I'll have to do that and give most of what I collect to the ACLU?
I can't believe that haven't set something like that up yet.

6. I wonder if the local Army/Navy Surplus store would have some Orange Jumpsuits?
It's been more than 10 years since I went to the one near me, so I'm not sure what "surplus" items they have these days.

9. All I have is an orange reflective vest that I got in the Five-Boro Bike Ride
The trouble is, it has the logos of the corporate sponsors, one of which is Citibank, which is being boycotted by some activists for its practices in the Third World.

I could cut it up to make an orange armband, but then I wouldn't have a reflective vest to wear when I'm cycling at night.

Maybe I'll just stay home all day.

10. I don't own any orange clothes either.
Maybe I should try wearing actual oranges from the grocery store. Wouldn't that be a-peeling? (har har)

16. A few years ago, I worked with a guy who had an Orange Polo-type shirt, and we...
...almost always made jokes about it (to him) that it looked like he was a Highway worker or something, but that's sort of the point, you'll stand out and it might spark conversation.

This might be a good time for everyone to buy an Orange shirt or tie, that yes, you may only ware it once or once a year, if they don't close it by the end of 2008.

15. I just happen to have two orange tees. Just set up a cellphone alarm for the night before.
If you can't think of anything orange to wear, go buy a shirt of the Dutch national soccer team:

18. Or for those unfortunate people who have to wear a Tie at "the office," here's an Idea!
Edited on Thu Jan-03-08 09:34 PM by Up2Late
An Orange Tie! It will definitely get attention and start the conversation at the coffee machine!

17. That'd be a good day to volunteer to pick up litter along the highways.
Kill two birds with one stone. :dunce:
