2. Usually their eyes just glaze over.
Most people I know consider discussing politics about as interesting as discussing the drying properties of paint.

4. "They're all crooks, so I don't follow politics"

That is the standard response to me when I bring something up.

Yet, these people that think they're all crooks seem to vote Republican...

But they don't see the connection.

5. Ditto.
I also find that people sort of back away, if they suspect that I may try to engage them in any meaningful political discussion.

all the time. I've now lived here for four years. My neighbors and friends count on me, lol, to tell them the newest news and scandals. :woohoo:

7. Often.
And it always brightens my day. :)

I either end up in a great conversation with someone else who keeps up, or I end up educating someone with a little tidbit or other. I like meeting new Republicans.

13. best line I ever got was
"and this election a Democrat will be elected and our taxes will go up", so when I began unloading on this co worker about the cost of the wars, the cost of government, the cost of education, and the rest having to be paid for somehow without borrowing more from China, he says, "oh,I don't want to talk politics". this my friends is what we are up against.

15. Me too
Bush voters ALWAYS respond with: "Oh, I don't follow the stuff the way you do." Then they get upset when I don't think that they are entitled to their "opinions" if I point out that they don't have any facts to back them them up.

16. so very true!
I have gotten the same thing....the younger crowd believes their vote doesn't count. One gal I was talking too said the war in Iraq doesn't affect her.

19. Not really, because I don't engage in political conversation with people unless
I know they're into it, so to speak.

My sanity can't handle it anymore.

22. Some people are, especially my Republican friends. I don't discuss politics w/ them at all.
Edited on Thu Jan-03-08 03:00 PM by CottonBear
If they ask me about politics or how I vote, I tell them that I'm very much interested and involved in politics but that I don't discuss politics with co-workers, clients, relatives or friends (except for my very oldest, closest and dearest friends who are all Democrats and progressives!.

I do tell them that I never vote against my own best self interests and leave it at that. ;)

I was forced to listen to Fox & Friends every morning (including Christmas day) at my boyfriend's parents house in Florida. Oy! :( His dad is a retired Exxon oil executive so it figures that he and his wife are really big Republicans and Bush-CHeney supporters. :( They have a personalized and autographed picture of George and Laura (at the "ranch") in their living room. I didn't say a word about it.

edit: spelling
