Question about Fox television.
Can anybody tell me about the relationship, if any, is between local Fox affiliates and the disgusting rightwing propaganda Fox News? I don't watch television so I am really clueless here.

1. I don't know, but I've noticed the local affiliates are.....
Slanted to the right, also.

2. national Faux is taking over more of the local news. They are
supplying "canned" pieces for use on local broadcasts in order to more tightly control the slant that any story might have so that the message is more unified from the right-wing perspective. This has come in the form of a directive from the national network.

And even though the locals try to pretend they are local in origin, they are simply falling into line.

15. OK, now I have seen that relatively recently...
...reference my post further down the chain where the Detroit affiliate doesn't seem all that right-leaning.

They do now have that Doug Luzader(?) thing on every morning covering political news, and he certainly broadcasts his leanings; he must have studied at the School of Smirk. I guess maybe I gloss over that because I know he's useless. That said, I can see where people not as politically aware could get sucked in by his biases.

3. it depends on the market
Edited on Wed Feb-21-07 09:29 AM by Neecy
Some local FOX affiliates are independently owned, some are owned by FNC. My own local FOX affiliate was purchased by FNC about a year ago and since then they've used clips from FOX "news" and there's been a changeover in some of the on-air personnel. They now also use FOX "reporters" for on-air interviews from Washington. Pure propaganda.

4. The local channel here in OK
uses some of the national news articles from Fox News. If you use any news from Fox News then your news broadcast is tainted because Fox News spin every story to the max.

5. Local news always has an...
affiliation with some larger news organization. AP and Reuters are the obvious ones, but network affiliates get feeds and stuff from their network news. So, Fox affiliates, like CBS, ABC, and NBC affiliates, get their network dispatches and can pick and choose what they want to run from that.

Each station picks and chooses according to its market, of course, so you'll get a wide range of viewpoints.

10. The usual nonsense you get from 12yos whose daddy lets them read FreeRepublic.
"clinton was a bigger lair than bush probly a fagot to!" etc, etc...

He was posting that sad crap all over GD. Luckily, he could only type
around three words per minute, so the Mods only had 11 posts worth
of his mangled diatribes to delete.

We just aren't attracting the real QUALITY disruptors these days.

11. Same Peas Of The Same Pod
The Fox Television Network is the over-the-air network owned by News Corp...the same company that owns and operates Faux Noise, but they are seperate entitites.

Here's the list of what stations Fox owns and other holdings:

http://www.cjr.org/tools/owners/newscorp.asp

Supposedly the "Entertainment" division (which also includes FX) operates from the West Coast, independent of the Noise Channel, that operates out of New York. Recently, the television network turned down the pilot for the half hour "comedy show". The only Faux Noise show that is aired is the Chris Wallace treehouse...and even some affiliates still don't carry it.

Nonetheless, any Fox channel is all by ignored in this house...just the logo makes my skin crawl.

14. You know, this is a really interesting question.

I wouldn't watch national Fox News if the apocalypse was upon us and theirs was the only signal still operational (okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, but still). That said, my local Fox affiliate (Detroit) does not seem to me to be rightward at all. The local affiliate actually does some really good traffic and weather in the morning, and is of a a much more consistent format than the competitors. So I'm torn on this issue myself. My husband likes to watch local Fox in the morning, and I pick my battles - that not being one of them.

The really important thing is that he never watches national Fox. :-)

on edit: the smilies are demons.

16. I don't watch much TV and it seems that your question was
already answered but I will say this. I watched my local Fox news once and it was an "if it bleeds it leads" news show. Nothing but news designed to scare the crap out of you. The only reason I even saw it was it came on after the Simpsons.
