Why most republicans despise the Clintons? |
|
For the most part, aren't the Clintons to the right of most people in the democratic party? I would think they would show more love, or at least some sort of like, for the Clintons... Or is it that the far left fears them so much because they think Clinton would "steal" some of the more moderate conservatives?? Or am I way off base on this?

1. Research who was working for the "prosecution" during the nixon impeachment. |
|
The answer to that may answer some of your question.

12. Hillary Clinton worked on the staff |
|
for Congress during impeachment.
I think they hate the Clintons because they represent a threat against the power elite that rules. Now the Clintons are the power elite and are not disliked as much.

2. The republicans hate the Clintons because they fear them. Bill |
|
Clinton ran for President against them twice and won both times. That hasn't happened since the time of FDR and they don't like it. Hatred springs from fear and I think the repubs hate Hillary because they fear her. She is to the right of most other Democratic candidates but they don't care about that, they want to win and they think she might be a tough candidate. I don't agree with their assessment, I think her high negatives would make a victory for her very problematical.

* Republicans were furious in `92 that "their" White House was snatched away from them. It was like a divine right was taken away from the monarchy.
* Their abject humiliation at Clinton's hands during that mid-90's government shutdown/impasse. He broke the rightys back that day and they have never forgiven him for it.

5. They got in the way of more than three consecutive Republican administrations. |
|
Reagan-Bush was supposed to reign for sixteen years, and then when Sr. Bush steps down, his successor, the VP, would step up and run for president. If this had come to pass, then in the 1990s, the Repubs would've controlled both houses of congress and the White House, and the Supreme Court would be further stacked than it already is with pro-corporate judges.
If they had succeeded, they would've been in a far better position to dismantle the New Deal entirely.

7. In 1992 Bill was arguably the rightmost Democratic hopeful... |
|
He was a "New", "pro-business" (read: pro-corporate) Democratic governor of a "right to work" (read: anti-union) state thumbed his nose (in various forms) at "special interest groups" (read: primary groups of the Democratic Party coalition). Any attempt to treat him as "just another liberal" like Dukkakis, Mondale, or Ted Kennedy would fall flat.
Add in Bill's charisma, allowing him to not get shot down by some of those nose-thumbings.
Add to that Hillary, who was an aide to the Watergate investigation, and was practically a poster girl for the Yuppie Supermom set.
Add to that the "horserace and schmooze" campaign press corps, which preferred Bill over the other Dems, and so anointed him the frontrunner before a single vote had been cast (and even after losing the Iowa Caucus).
Faced with an opponent they couldn't smear as a traditional liberal, the Bush campaign decided to dispense with reality all together and smear Bill as a radical leftist, ultra-liberal, dope-smoking, draft-dodging, flag-burning, skirt-chasing Hippy Billary, a projection screen for everything the Republican base went apoplectic over about the 60's.

14. They "Unseated" Reagan's chosen successor, GWH Bush. |
|
I heard many times from many Republicans; this is what they could not forgive. Clinton came on board just before their "Permanent Republican Majority" strategy was bearing fruit.

15. Everything was being & had been shoved hard right, then Bill Clinton came along. |
|
The Republicans had to make sure that Bill Clinton could not shove the country back to the left, so they kept him busy with numerous witch hunts and constant screaming. The underlings of the Republican Party bought into their own propaganda and hatred used to muddy the waters for Bill Clinton.
