THE PEOPLE V. RICHARD CHENEY-GQ Magazine-Acting As 4th Estate-Presents 6 Articles Of Impeachment
Edited on Wed Feb-21-07 12:00 PM by kpete
THE PEOPLE V. RICHARD CHENEY

Resolved, that Richard B. Cheney, vice president of the United States, should be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors and that these articles of impeachment be submitted to the American people
GQ, March 2007

.......................

.......... the vice president has not merely been wrong about the issues; he has been duplicitous, deceitful, and deliberately destructive to the American democracy. These things can no longer be denied by rational minds:

...........

That in the buildup to war in Iraq, the vice president, lacking confidence in the true casus belli, conspired to invent additional ones, misrepresenting the available intelligence, crafting new “intelligence,” and then spreading these falsehoods to the public, perverting the democratic process that he is sworn to uphold.

........................

For these and other offenses against the nation, Vice President Cheney, clearly, is guilty of crimes against the state.

Herewith, in the absence of action for the past six years by a timid Republican Congress and a refusal to act by the new Democratic leadership, we, the Fourth Estate, take the mantle of indictment unto ourselves and present these Articles of Impeachment, to be adopted by the United States House of Representatives and voted upon by the United States Senate, at their earliest possible leisure:

Resolved
That Richard B. Cheney, vice president of the United States, be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors; that the evidence hereinafter set out sustains six articles of impeachment justifying immediate removal from office;
that said articles shall be adopted by the House of Representatives; and that the same shall be endorsed by the Senate, to wit:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Moy513mIeB0&eurl=

Now they're planning the crime of the century
Well what will it be?
Read all about their schemes and adventuring
It's well worth a fee
So roll up and see
And they rape the universe
How they've gone from bad to worse
Who are these men of lust, greed, and glory?
Rip off the masks and let see.
But that's no right - oh no, whats the story?
There's you and there's me
That can't be right

10. Would it be more likely that the sheep in DC would impeach Cheney?
Because that would be just dandy!

In this particular presidency, I am convinced that impeaching and removing the VP would remove nearly all of the trouble.

I believe he was chosen for those very qualities to front for the real Prez - Dick Cheney.

Bush just channels Cheney's authoritarian tendencies. And takes orders.

15. Well sounds great but....
two-thirds of the Senate must agree to convict.

The senate is not the people of this country, they are the extremely rich ruling class, and the Senate does not care about the will of the people, they will not take any action against their friends!

The Senate is royalty and loyalty like Lieberman!

Basically they have all got filthy rich off this and they all have been covering up about everything they can, Democrats and republicans...its all the Fucking same. There puppets at best.

I want it to happen so bad but I know nothing is going to happen, sort of a revolution!

this already happened 1000 years ago in a galaxy far far away..... A evil sith took control of the government LOL

27. So that's an excuse to not even try?
Impeachment hearings at a minimum are absolutely necessary to prevent further erosion of Constitutional democracy. Imagine what the next thug who sneaks into office will expect to get away with, if we can't even muster the energy to impeach the thugs we have today!

53. think my point is...
that the Senate won't do anything that we want them to do, and getting 2 thirds of them to vote for impeachment is simply NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!

The Senate is a group of people that are making tons off this whole war and what not, you really think that our government officials are divided and want to Impeach their buddy BUSH? Fuck no there on the payroll to!

Nothing can change shit except for a full on revolution involving a bloody civil war and plenty of be-headings, its the only god damn way

69. You're Messing Up Their Ponies
I'll give you 33 reasons even Cheney won't be convicted.

http://www.wnyc.org/blog/lehrer/archives/archive/Lott,%20Trent-thumb.jpg

This is a man who thought lying about a blow job rose to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors while as a member of the House Judiciary committee in '74 couldn't find a damn thing wrong with anything Richard Nixon did. And you're expecting this "Repugnican Moderate" and leader to vote to convict?

Your analysis is spot on. Between the elitist nature of the Senate...they know so much better than we do...they're spineless (if the cloture vote on the House's war resolution proves). And these people are gonna convict?

And don't forget about the corporate media that will see this in a purely partisan light...and as some TV freak show. And then what do we end up with?

If Libby is convicted, the door is open to lots of litigation and an on-going criminal investigation that has far more teeth and is based on justice and facts, not polls and pandering of money and votes.

Thank you for your post.

Vanity Fair has rocked for a long time; I don't read Esquire but I've seen some good on-line articles linked to there from DU. I subscribed to Rolling Stone after they printed the article about how the vote was stolen.

But my gosh... GQ? When did that happen?

We had a thread on that last month, re: the Lockheed story.

sidenote: I used to pick up Esquire, occasionally, back when Jamie Malanowski (of Spy fame) was Editor.

edited to add: WOW! Just for the heck of it, I googled Jamie to see what he's up to these days. Found an article in Washington Monthly that had this on the bottom:

"Jamie Malanowski is the managing editor of Playboy."

Well, that explains that.
