Remember Daughters teacher? We had meetings today
Daughter is now sitting with an A

Principal and Teacher and I and daughter had really long discussions.

Teacher is now required to provide a rubric for every assignment as she could not explain grades in Daughter's portfolio!!! She also had 0's for grades that Daughter had clearly graded in her portfolio...My daughter keeps EVERY assignment (mom instilled that in her!!!)

Other students and parents also requested similar meetings.

I was very hesitant about going forward, but now am glad I did!

The lady is severely wacko

10. Excellent!
And she's getting A's to boot! What a great kid... great parent too.

I did half of 11th and all of my senior year in six months, passed the GED, and was in college before my class graduated. I hated high school with a fiery passion! Didn't mind the work, but really couldn't stand the social scene... maybe because I was raised in a Fundy family and could only date guys from our church... but I don't see anything wrong with an accelerated program! Kids need to be challenged!

lesson in documentation. I would have loved to have seen teacher's reaction. Did she get defensive at all?

stammering and stuttering

I requested a change, but Daughter loves her other classes and teachers and doesn't want to jeopardize them...

11. In my day... the stoned age... it was called...
Enrichment Program... we were never told why we were pulled out of class three times a week and given extra work. Most of us thought we were stupid and needed the extra help! hahaha~! We didn't complain though. We got extra field trips, we ran most of the student newspaper, and many of us were later awarded a tutor's certificate... that's when we started asking questions! It's much better today when kids are told they are gifted. I wouldn't worry too much about that teacher... she's on the principal's radar now! It would be uber stupid to try and retaliate in any way.

14. I learned documentation the hard way in college...
had a teacher claim I didn't do a major research paper...I didn't keep them at the time, but hubby the great man he is, pulled it off the computer even tho I thought I had lost it...

from then on, I keep every single piece of paper in every class...

I also tell my students to do the same. I tell them, I am not perfect, I sometimes make mistakes so If you have a paper, and I miss it in the gradebook, show me,I will fix it.

Daughter even did an awesome extra credit project ...this for an English class...

draw four characters from Ceasar

so...

She drew Ceasar, Brutus, Marc Anthony and Casius..

She even put different atttributes such as a long face, muscles, gave them cloaks all of different colors and explained the symbolism of the colors ect...

she got 10 points because "the faces all looked the same" I saw them, they did not...and the lady is not an art teacher...

guuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

It's wacko teachers that give the profession a bad name. They must be weeded out, or at least made to be responsible for their actions.

So happy that all turned out well for your daughter. Know that it must have been
particularly hard for you since you are in the same district.
As one who taught forty years, , i know that there are some in the profession that definitely
don't qualify. Up to the administrations to get rid of them IMO. z

Kids need strong advocates - and nobody is better able than a loving parent.

Did Ms. Wacko teacher give any explanation why she never gave a kid an A??? Or at least acknowledge her unethical grading system?

24. Good! I'm glad. And the children who have to deal with this
teacher in the future might have benefited from your actions, too.

So many teachers are hard working and truly dedicated. I wish there were a much better, faster way to get rid of the deadwood. It would be much better for the profession as a whole!

33. Good for you.
If the teacher was doing her job well, she could have explained why your daughter's grade was what it was, and given a clear explanation of what she'd need to do to get an A.

More importantly, you taught your daughter a lesson about advocating for herself and demanding fair treatment, which will serve her well in future schooling and in her career.

37. So...
It sounds like this teacher is passive-agressive. She has an arbitrary grading system that is not a system but rather a method of denying credit for work done? Her records did not reflect the grading she wrote on papers? IE she graded and returned, then failed to note some of the grades in her permanent records? She claims to have "high standards", yet can not demonstrate this standard system when asked?

Izzat right?

38. Thanks so much for going in to bat for your daughter. GOOD JOB MOM!
I remember you said she was hesitant to have you become involved because she avoids conflict but I think you taught her something EXTREMELY important. Sometimes when injustice is being committed you have to stand up and fight, not just for yourself but others as well.

AWESOME. I'm so happy for you both.

infact, right before we were supposed to meet, daughter said "lets just forget about it, I will just try to do more extra credit...
