Everyone is talking about change. Talk about deja vu.
That was the theme of the 1992 election, and of Barbara Jordan's keynote address to the Democratic Convention.
Sent chills up my spine.
It was a real milestone for me - my introduction into politics. Popped my political cherry, you might say.
The first time I voted, too :)
Please, Democrats, please. Bring back the spirit of those days.
The passion.
The determination.
The sorely needed change.

1. I think the reaganbush fatigue that gave way to that desire (and message) of |
|
change is NOTHING compared the bushcheney disgust/abhorrance that is freefloating in the public sentiment today.
Here is the box the pubs are in - with the exception of Huckabee, none of the GOP is talking about any policy/position changes so they use the word but then Romney publically chastizes Huckabee for criticizing bush foreign policy. They are only offering more of the same, or worse - more of the same on steroids.
The more bellicose they get and the long they ignore domestic concerns (which all but Huckabee generally do) the more the message of specific change resonates on the democratic side.
Poor pubbies. Everything they seem to do just stoke the passions, determination and desire not just for change but to work for change. Piece of evidence #1 - the HUGE increase in turnout in Iowa and the HUGE advantage of dem vs repub caucusers (more pubs either discouraged or uninterested in participating for any of their candidates.)

I wish I wasn't so cynical, because I don't see the change we need ever happening until it's too late. :(

11. Barbara Jordan's 1976 Keynote address at the DNC still gives me tears. |

It's not mere whimsy that causes me to use her for my avatar ... it's close to "hero worship." Of the people I most admired in the 20th Century, she's among the topmost. I'm still stunned at how marvelous and BEAUTIFUL a human being she was. It still staggers my imagination that she attained such incredible levels of excellence from such beginnings. Awesome. Simply awesome.

5. Hey CatWoman, your thread just pulled a new trick... |
|
when I went to the MY DU function - my response to your thread showed up - but there was no title in the thread title box. Then I thought - it couldn't have been locked nor disappeared, but I had to click on it and the thread shows. Never saw that before.
Btw :hi: from your old home in Naptown!

I read your comment on top.
this country puzzles the hell out of me. they put republicans in power, then overwhelmingly vote democrats in to clean up the republican mess.
vicious cycle.

9. right now it doesn't like it was "us" who needs to learn, |
|
but the swing center. And the turnout numbers in Iowa, if they are replicated in other primaries, would suggest that the middle swing folks might be learning the lesson.
