Dixie Chicks get 'unusually large' post-Grammy sales rush
http://www.dicksonherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070221/ENTERTAINMENT01/70221044

Sales of the Dixie Chicks Grammy-winning album Taking The Long Way soared 714 percent in the week following the awards show, Nielsen SoundScan reported today.

Album sales (including digital albums), sold 103,000 in the past week compared to 13,000 the previous week. That moved the group from No. 72 to No. 8 on this week’s Billboard sales chart.

Wade Jessen, country charts manager for Billboard, said the increase was unusually large for a post-Grammy appearance, but did not think it reflected any kind of political statement.

“There are a whole lot of people interested in this music that don’t have a political ax to grind,” Jessen said.

1. People Suddenly Realized The Dixie Chicks Actually Had A New Album
Thanks to all the radio stations which cut them from programming, there is a sizable untapped market out there, who probably didn't even know the Dixie Chicks still made good music.

Shocking.

5. People are afraid.
People won't go to certain web sites because they are afraid. By the same token people won't buy something that might not appear to be mainstream. We are a nation of followers. That is why we have the problems we do.
