Choosing Ralph Wiggum Jumps The Shark.
I know "Simpsons" has been slaloming down the mountain of cesspool fodder for some time, but tonight's really redefines "stupid television". Writers of "Family Guy" must be really proud, as without that show gaining popularity, "Simpsons" wouldn't have anything to update itself toward.

5. Well, when cartoons become topical beyond a reasonable doubt... |
|
it becomes so cartoonish it can no longer be classified AS a cartoon.

15. Like say... South Park? |
|
And your logic amazes me... too cartoonish to be a cartoon.

I wasn't sure it was a new episode until Fred Thompson showed up hiding in a houseplant.

9. I wonder if Ralph was supposed to represent Obama - |
|
you know, young, inexperienced, riding a sudden wave of public whimsy, etc.

13. Yes, I did notice that as well! |
|
Also, the way it ended, it gave me the feeling that it was just a "Part 1" episode - will Part 2 be next week? (But aren't the writers on strike?)

14. The episodes take months to create. It couldn't have been too topical. |
|
I liked the episode from years ago when Clinton and Dole were space aliens during the election. Of course that was before the evils of george w.

17. Episodes are written over six months in advance so that they can be animated |
|
So they have all the scripts through the end of the season (June-ish). And of course it was created to run at the beginning of the primaries, though without the knowledge of what was happening now. Like I said, six months from origin to airing, sometimes up to eight if there's trouble in production.
