But, I don't know if it's actually true about either one.

11. Nashua is right on the MA border
I'm in MA, and I'm going to an Obama event tomorrow. The candidates don't usually spend much time in Massachusetts, so we have to go up to NH to see and hear them in person. If most of those cars were from other New England states, it's probably for the same reason I'm going up there too.

13. I've not seen it yet
And just because someone comes from out of state to see her speak does not mean she's busing in people.

For that matter, even if she is so long as all they're doing is listening to her speak I doubt there's anything wrong with that either.

5. You mean like Obama busing in college kids to caucus in Iowa?
Point being, I don't see either of these things as a big deal. Hillary may not get a chance to visit a lot of northeastern states that have later primaries. Why shouldn't these people see her while they have the chance?

15. New England states are mostly pretty small
So it's not that much of a drive to see candidates in NH. I live in Mass, but I'm only a 30 minute drive from Nashua, which is just over the border from MA

12. Obama did the same in Iowa. Oprah paid for college students to be bused in
to vote for him. CLinton is just trying to level the playing field. She's got to do this if she's not going to lose in NH.

that cites Oprah paying to bus students to Obama events? That's a pretty scurrilous charge if true. And I wouldn't believe anything Joe Scarborough has to say about any of our good candidates.

35. Student volunteers descend on Iowa
Student volunteers descend on Iowa

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1207/7631.html

By: Ben Adler

Politically engaged college students are forgoing their coveted winter breaks to brave the frigid terrain of Iowa.

Young people enthusiastic about their candidate, or in some cases just the democratic process, are descending on Iowa in droves to volunteer and observe.

Some, obviously, are directly volunteering for candidates. Others are students at Iowa colleges who grew up out of state and are coming back just to caucus. And a few are there to learn about the process.

All campaigns are welcoming volunteers. Some, like the John Edwards campaign, have made volunteering a simple matter of signing up online.

But Barack Obama’s campaign was so deluged with out-of-state volunteers that it has decided to limit the number who may come.

One Obama supporter who did not make the cut was Rachel Lauter, 23, of Brooklyn, N.Y. Lauter is active in Brooklyn for Barack, a coalition of Obama supporters in the borough.

The group had arranged through Obama’s New York office to travel to Iowa to volunteer in the weeks leading up to the caucuses. But on the day Lauter was to buy her plane ticket, members were told that Iowa had more than enough volunteers already. Instead, they were encouraged to focus their energies on the Northeast and, in particular, on New Hampshire.

snip-->

On the other hand, not all indicators are so positive. Young Voter PAC, a Democratic youth voter-mobilization organization, has offered transportation subsidies to Iowa college students from out of state who want to caucus for the Democrats but for whom cost might be an issue. Young Voter PAC has put up ads on Facebook, Google and the Des Moines Register website, in addition to blasting a list of 58,000 18- to 35-year-old registered Democrats in Iowa with text messages and e-mails.

Jane Fleming Kleeb, Young Voter PAC’s executive director, said she was disappointed that very few students took them up on their offer at first. But, noting college students’ famous tendency to procrastinate, she said it is encouraging that most of the 84 applications have come in since Friday, suggesting that many more may soon follow.

------------------------

I couldn't find anything on Google about Oprah or buses but she may have help that PAC.

36. I knew about the out of state students being in Iowa, but the
poster charged that "OPRAH" paid for the buses. I'd like to see proof of that before making a judgement. If the poster cannot provide such proof, he/she should come back and say so.

at someone whom I admire a great deal, and I'd still like to see proof. The poster makes it sound as if Oprah is trying to buy an election, and I don't like the sound of that.

14. This is NORMAL in an Election !!!
Kucinich supporters are in NH helping and Edwards has people helping and and so do all the other candidates!

Why do you think they all have links to 'Volunteer' on their campaign websites?

In 2004, I went out of state to help get Kerry elected! So did a lot of other people!

That's how it works. What, did you think they'd be doing all that work all by themselves? That's impossible!

23. No, it isn't! Cape Cod MA legislatures chartered buses to go up to NH!!
And many people from MA are driving up there to volunteer or just see their candidate.

I'm sure people from Rhode Island, New York, Connecticut, Vermont and Maine are also there in NH!

You must be very young and new to elections and how they work, if this surprises you.

You need to activate your profile, Windy or people start wondering about you. Just sayin'.

25. The statute seems a bit vague on what constitutes residency:
http://www.sos.nh.gov/rsa654.htm

CHAPTER 654

VOTERS AND CHECKLISTS

Eligibility

654:1 Voter; Office Holder.

I. Every inhabitant of the state, having a single domicile for voting purposes, being a citizen of the United States, of the age provided for in Article 11 of Part First of the Constitution of New Hampshire, shall have a right at any meeting or election, to vote in the town, ward, or unincorporated place in which he or she is domiciled. An inhabitant's domicile for voting purposes is that one place where a person, more than any other place, has established a physical presence and manifests an intent to maintain a single continuous presence for domestic, social, and civil purposes relevant to participating in democratic self-government. A person has the right to change domicile at any time, however a mere intention to change domicile in the future does not, of itself, terminate an established domicile before the person actually moves. A person's claim of domicile for voting purposes shall not be conclusive of the person's residence for any other legal purpose.

***********************************

Sorry, but whether one can legally qualify as having established a 'domicile' or not, having done so strictly for the purpose of showing a false level of support in a caucus or primary represents a form of election fraud, no matter which party or candidate is involved. The law needs to be updated to prevent this kind of nonsense.

My opinion.

It's oly about people attending her events that are not from NH.

It's more akin to discussing how I've traveled to New Mexico to help campaign before. Should that not be allowed?

34. You do realize that Nashua is not a long drive from....MA,RI,CT,VT and Maine right?
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 05:00 PM by Marrah_G
Many of these places are close then the most northern parts of the state are to Nashua.

My daughter wanted to go today but I couldn't get out of work. It would have been 1.5ish hours (at the most) from me and I live on the MA/RI border. We attended Kerry events in NH in 2004.

I think many people do not understand New England.

Oh...and you faux outrage over buses.....I was on a political action bus in September...to D.C. It is far easier then driving there for many people and allow those without a car (like half of Boston)to go to events.

If I lived on the Cape I would have loved to have been able to get a spot on a charter to see my candidate of choice.
