3. Yes, they have so much in common.
Like, for example, the fact that they are both primates.

Oh, wait, Huckabee doesn't believe in that sort of thing. Humans are God's special creation, not products of evolution from a common ancestor. My bad.

4. The thing is that Huckabee comes across in interviews as a very
likeable person and hasn't made enough radical statements to scare anybody . . . yet. My guess is that many people don't really know much about him because his rise to the top of the pack has been so swift. He was easy to ignore just a few weeks ago when he was polling at around 2%.

12. It sounds like he wants a populist!
and can't make up his mind which of the two populists he agrees with most often on the entire diversity of social and international issues. Regardless the independent sounds like he is ready for a change from the status quo.

is the way it was explained to me. But it is bizarre.

15. Huckabee
Has done a good job ignoring policy and branding himself a popularist. Lucky for him (looking for an easy story) the media has taken off and run with that story. Basically if the media focused on any of Huckabee's policy views like say the national income tax idea, they'd see him as a fool that he is.

16. In a bizarre, not political way it makes sense
It would have made even more sense with Edwards 2004. Huckabee, despite his strange ideas, comes across as a warm Southern populist. He, unlike the other Republicans, can speak of helping people who need it. He, far more than Bush ever could, sounds like a compassionate person, who is conservative.

In terms of how he would come off as a person - he stands out as very different than the other Republicans - McCain is the only one hitting any similar notes. HRC comes out as extremely different. Although he and Obama both have a change message, Obama comes across as more reserved and intellectual. So, if someone doesn't look at their political opinions, they could end up with Edwards and Huckabee.

17. They're both populist, in a way.
Huckabee gets less lobbyist money than Edwards & he ran on a shoe-string campaign against corpocrat Romney. So I respect the Hucakbee underdog win, and the Ron Paul groupies, and the Obama wave. Basically people are saying "I'm mad as hell & I'm not going to take it anymore!"

20. They both speak to the needs of the working class
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 05:28 PM by blindpig
Crazy, huh?

An Edwards/Huckabee contest would be the worst nightmare of the Money Party. The Money Party has been quite happy to have a great chunk of working class people stay home on election day and has worked hammer and tong to befuddle the rest with secondary bullshit. what these guys are saying is striking a nerve.

The Money Party has been waging war on us for decades, past time to take the offensive. It matters not if these two men are insincere, what is important is the resonance of their message, the people have been waiting for it.
