Paper nickels
I was rooting around in a box of old papers last night and got a blast from the past.

Somewhere around 40 years ago, I was stationed in Chu Lai, RVN. Uncle was kind enough to take all my real money and give me Military Payment Certificates or as we usta to call it 'funny money'.

Ever seen a paper nickel?

This sucker's about 1/3 the size of a dollar bill.

I also found a paper dime

and a paper quarter.

About 38 years ago, the United States invaded Cambodia. At the time I had been in country a few weeks, so guess where my skinny ass ended up. You guessed it, I was about 100 meters inside the Cambodian border with a small support team. We fixed everything that didn't fly.

The boys made some good finds; there were shithooks coming in all day long dropping off 'stuff' they had found. We had 100-lb bags of brown rice (which was really tasty & made an excellent alcholic beverage), food, medical supplies, guns, ammo, etc. etc.

I had completely forgotten about it, but I copped this from a generator box.

We had a bit of a wet spell and the booklet got some water damage, but if you can read Chinese:

I also found some old pictures, but think I'll save them for another time.

Peace out,
uhc

3. There were several reasons for the military doing this
Paper in your pocket does not chink together also US Greenbacks could be used on world markets to purchase arms for the enemy. That is why the Bush* Administration loaded 8 billion dollars (that's billion with a b) of hundred dollar bills, shrink wrapped green back dollars onto pallets and shipped them to Iraq never to be seen or heard of again. No one knows anything....I read that all those pallets weighed 463 tons and it took four C-5 Cargo jets to haul it...And they just disappeared

5. Tres cool! But sodas on the tender in Scotland cost 25 cents and cigarettes 50 cents a pack in 1983
since there was no tax of any type!

But the MOD did not like the submariners selling cigarettes to the locals and thwart Mrs. Thatcher, so we were limited at carrying one pack on our person leaving the tender!

But the local tobacco shop in Dunoon carried H. Uppman cigars straight form Fidel, so we had it wasn't all black market US backy thwarting their market by any means!

7. I remember well the MPCs and how pissed off the Mommasans were
every time they got changed. If I remember correctly those were issued in 69. I still have some of the 67 and 68 editions myself...
