Sky News understands that Prince Harry's regiment, The Blues and Royals is to be sent to Iraq.
But it is not known if the Prince will be part of the contingent.
He has always insisted he wants to be treated the same as any ordinary soldier, rather than being kept away from harm in a headquarters job.
The Defence Secretary Des Browne will formally brief MPs today on which military units will be sent to the war-torn country in April as part of a long-planned rotation of troops.
