Police: Dad threw 4 kids off bridge
Source: AP

BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. - Authorities searched Wednesday for the bodies of four children believed to have been thrown off a bridge by their father.

Lam Luong, 37, of Irvington confessed Tuesday night to driving to the Dauphin Island bridge, stopping and tossing the youngsters off the span, which is as high as 80 feet above the water in places, Detective Scott Riva said. Luong faced charges of four counts of capital murder and was due in court Wednesday, Riva said.

Missing and presumed dead were 4-month-old Danny Luong; 1-year-old Lindsey Luong; 2-year-old Hannah Luong; and 3-year-old Ryan Phan. Phan is not the man's biological child, but Luong raised him from infancy, authorities said.

<snip>

Police said Luong reported the children missing Monday. He reportedly told authorities that a woman who had the children failed to return them to him.

No offense, but why did you post this? Ugh. Add it to the list of reasons why we should all consider voluntary extinction.

6. No.
To show how we need more social outreach.

I believe most people who do thing such as this could have been reached before they became this desperate if we had better MHMR and social support.

5. 'act of revenge"

At least three boats were being used in the search, and the Coast Guard was sending another boat and a helicopter, Riva said.

"It's been a nightmare," said Riva.

Luong is jailed in Mobile, and Riva said he did not know whether he had a lawyer. There was no telephone listing for Luong.

Police Chief John Joyner said the act appeared to be an act of revenge aimed at Luoung's wife, the Press-Register of Mobile reported. Police said Luong reported the children missing Monday. He reportedly told authorities that a woman who had the children failed to return them to him.

The Dauphin Island bridge connects coastal Alabama to a barrier island located about three miles south of Mobile Bay in the Gulf of Mexico.

8. Smells like a custody dispute gone to the extreme.

Custody disputes are always butt-fuck ugly, no matter how you slice it. As usual, the kids are the big losers.

wouldn't there be a body? Or in this case more than one? Custody fight gone bad? Or just another distraction for media?

10. What state did it happen in?
What's in that water below (animal-wise)? How fast a current?

Therefore, unless someone was there moments afterwards...not necessarily.

17. Kind of a rhetorical question I asked but the point I was making is that those might be gator waters
and if not they might have a fast current.

37. I agree.
This guy getting the death penalty wouldn't bother me at all. It is warranted in the most egregious cases.

But life in prison (without parole) would also suffice. It's as bad as death in many cases.

And then to pass the buck on to someone else. I can't imagine what that family is going through. My thoughts go out to them. Those innocent little kids didn't deserve to have something like that happen to them. I hope he rots in prison for the rest of his life.

24. Variations on a theme...
In a sick society of 300 million people...we note that every few days there is a story like this.
.. Some nutcase kills his/her kids.

Now..since this is a recurring theme..what can be done about it????
..perhaps nutcases who desire to kill their children, can drop of the extras, and kill only one?
..perhaps nutcases who desire to kill their children, can only injure them, and kill themselves?
..perhaps nutcases who desire to kill their chlldren, can kill themselves first, and save it for later?

Hell, I don't know...do you?????????.............Stuart G.

28. What the F-U-C-K is wrong with people?
My husband and I have been praying and hoping for a successful pregnancy and I am sure that there are hundreds of thousands, if not countless millions who desperately want children and here it seems that everytime I turn around, someone if hurling sweet little babies off of bridges, buildings etc. I notice, however, that they don't choose to follow those precious ones to a similar fate.

31. More from the story, from the same Yahoo link as OP
"The couple lived with Phan's mother at Bayou La Batre, a fishing village with a large Southeast Asian community. Phan's brother-in-law Kam Phengsisomboun, who is from Thailand, said the couple moved back to the area from Hinesville, Ga., only a couple of weeks ago.

They argued Sunday night and again Monday, he said. Luong left the home with two of the children, then later came back for the other two, he said.

The family initially feared the children had been traded to support a drug habit, Phengsisomboun said. Luong had a crack cocaine habit and had spent an insurance settlement from an automobile accident rapidly, he said, and authorities confirmed Luong had a history of drug offenses."

36. Horrible.
Senseless tragedies like this remind me that sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to this life.

I hope the guy is removed from society permanently. Whatever his story may be, he has no place among us.
