The WAY vote totals are released, seems to be the problem with the "validity" issue
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 01:51 PM by SoCalDem
Folks.. we HAVE computers.. we HAVE the technology.

Every voting venue has a sign-in book.. they have a simple way to report their numbers..

1. when the polls close, they just add up all the signatures of the people who showed up to vote.

2. they KNOW how many registered people are IN their own precinct.

3. they TALLY the votes for the candidates.

Those THREE totals should be released and reported ONLINE....IMMEDIATELY

If a precinct has 500 registered voters, and 300 signed in, but the vote totals for all the candidates equal 550, it's immediately apparent, that there's some 'splainin' to be done.

FACT: People "mess with" pollsters, and people may even "fib" to the exit pollers.

Pundits are natural born prevaricators and spinners. It's their JOB. They HAVE to gin up interest... even the dullest of races MUST be spun, in order to make it interesting.

There HAS to be a "story" in every race, or they all just sit around interviewing each other.

1. Counties didn't report results
I looked for county election pages last night, the way we always used to have. I couldn't find them, at least not for Cheshire and Hillsborough. I hope that isn't a trend, and just an oversight on my part.

2. Yep.. most people don't give a crap..but for those of us who DO
it would seem a small thing to just upload the totals to a website, so we could see the numbers.

It's not rocket science..

If those 3 numbers were posted by precinct, you would have a long boring list of numbers(to most people), but you could also be able to look at the actual totals and do your own math :)

3. Other counties do, or used to
I've never gone to a county web site and not found their election page. The amount of election result info varies, but this is the first time I haven't found anything. I don't know if their elections are organized differently or whether this is a trend to avoid public scrutiny. It's weird, that's all I know right now.

4. County by county, updating ONLINE is the only way to go these days
There's no need to return to the olden days..
