Anyone belong to Unity 08? |
|
I went to their site once or twice but didn't join, so I can't see any of the discussions. I could probably join up, but I really don't want the flood of emails they likely send out.
Are they talking specific candidates yet, and if so -- who are they batting around?

1. It strikes me as a superficial idea that just won't go anywhere |
|
Unless some serious 3rd party candidate is pulling their strings behind the curtain, it's a colossal waste of time.

I was just curious as to who they are thinking.
Is this where Bloomberg would go?

7. I've heard DUers make that assumption. It is NY based, I think. |
|
Sam Waterston from Law & Order is involved with them. Anyway, I half suspect Bloomberg is a bluff.

9. I am just hoping against hope that they are starting to think about Ron Paul |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 09:26 PM by Yael
Too late for him to join the Libertarian/Constitution platforms, and the neo-nazis need somewhere to pitch their sheets.
It would be nice if they backed a (R) like Paul with a DINO VP to split the (R) party.
Edit to clarify

6. I read their statements on their site about what they are about...and RAN LIKE HELL AWAY! |
|
They are front for the "New Democrats" the evolution of the failed DLC (Democratic Leadeship Council" that gave us NAFTA and many other policies that caused the demise of the MIDDLE CLASS in America.
They have some Carter people on their Board...but then...it doesn't matter because Carter was long ago and a "one termer" who has done well after his Presidency ended but was unable to govern because of Bushies doing HOSTAGE CRISIS and hammering him with other unfairness.
I wouldn't joing "Unity '08 if my life depended on it. Do a GOOGLE of who is running them and look at their affiliations... It's not something that Progressive Dems would want to touch because of the taint and stench.
But...hey GOOD LUCK if it's YOUR THING! :eyes:

namely because Sam Waterston was so gung ho about it. I was intrigued to find out if this online platform thing would actually work. There haven't been that many emails, and, as far as I can tell, people are batting around ideas more than anything else. I stopped taking part in discussions when they went from posting user names to real names--they'd asked for your real name to check on voter roles, supposedly--but I didn't feel comfortable when they started publishing part of this information on their site. When I did take part in discussions, it was obvious that there was a wide gulf between those on the liberal and those on the conservative side. A lot of misinformation about Muslims, which is one reason I was posting there-do like to clear up the notion that we all have horns and a tail :).
Anyway, I've become less and less sure that anything will really come of it, despite the internet innovations. Hard to make a platform when half the folks say, for example, that abortion is murder while the other half say a woman has the right to make a choice.

11. This is how I imagined it |
|
People who can't find a party because their views are so fringe that nothing else suits. I know it is touted as a "party" of unity, but that is not what I imagined would be drawn to it.
Thanks for the report -- appreciate you doing the legwork!
