"McMissile Mom" NOT freed wanted on Walmart bad check charge in Miss. (husband in Iraq)

STAFFORD -- The "McMissile Mom's" hopes of a fast release from jail fizzled when officials said they couldn't let her go yesterday, even after a judge reduced her two-year prison sentence and ordered her free.

Jessica Hall had already spent nearly two months behind bars for throwing a McDonald's cup of soda and ice at another motorist.

However, it turned out Mississippi authorities wanted her for bad-check charges in that state.

Hall, whose Marine Corps husband's second tour in Iraq has been extended, could be released this morning if the money is paid back, officials said. The four separate charges involved about $833 and arose from purchases at a Wal-Mart in July 2005, said Sgt. Brett Grosmann of the Desoto, Miss., County Sheriff's Department.

1. Nice!
So not only does WalMart get its money from the working poor yet again, the court imposed a *$1000* fine for throwing a cup? I bet those suburban whiners in the other car deservedly feel like the tools they are for being such crybabies that a pregnant lady has to spend two months in prison and be further bankrupted because their slacks got damp.

And, yes, I get that she threw the ice and that's bad. Yes, I understand there should be consequences for criminal actions, but two months in jail and bankruptcy seems a little harsh for wigging out and throwing a paper cup at people who cut you off and gave you the finger.

Is there a page to contribute to this lady?

2. Wal-Mart's bad policies don't excuse anyone who writes bad checks to them.

She should have to pay for the bad checks she wrote. Being raised in a military family myself, I'm sorry for her being here with three kids while her husband's in Iraq. My mother had to deal with that and it's no picnic, but that's no excuse for writing bad checks, or for throwing a cup of ice into another car.

She might have thrown that ice at someone who'd have shot her and left her children motherless. It's just not a good idea to do anything to provoke another driver, even if he or she has cut you off or otherwise been an idiot.

5. I did not read about her giving the finger
but she could have caused a serious accident. Fortunately she did not but it seems to me that there must be consequences for one's actions and I think a fine is well deserved.

I am sorry that she had to spend three months in jail because she could not afford to raise the bail but that does not seem like to good reason to call the people whose life she jeopardized as crybabies.

7. As a motorcyclist who get stuff thrown at him regularly, I have mixed feelings about this
A felony is a bit much, as was 2 years (min time). I am glad the judge reduced it to time served and a fine. IIRC, there was a bail set, but she did not/could not meet the amount.

The fine is fully justified, as would a misdemeanor conviction. Throwing things from your car is hazardous to others, including MC riders and bicyclists. Maybe her conviction will server as a deterrent to others.

3. Sounds like BOTH drivers should lose their licenses for a good long time.
But jail time is pointless.

4. Also in these cases the judges often refuse to consider what vehicles were involved.

A lot of the time the thrower will be driving a compact and alone while the other vehicle will be large and have multiple people to witness.

Judges often fail to take into account how nearly no one goes harrasing other motorists while driving in a small car or while alone. But I think many of us have had situations where a group out on the town decides to screw with you or some other vehicle on purpose.

In every situation where these people are confronted, they threaten to provide mass false witness and use a "Whose the cops going to believe?!!" threat to further impose their numbers.

6. Let's see
Road rage? Check
McDonalds? Check
Writing bad paper at Walmart? Check

If this lady is not a freeper, I'll be surprised.
