Attorney General Gonzales Deputizes 20 Million Right Leaning Christians ?

Don Byrd, of the Baptist Joint Committee On Religious Liberty, writes :

Imagine if the religious right's beloved "war on Christmas" was a year-round affair. Legions of lawyers ready to pounce on school and civic administrators, the persistent neon buzz of ACLU-paranoia in the air, Pat Robertson and the Bill O'Reilly Persecution Complex (nice band name...) pressuring corporate America to replace every "gesundheit" with a "God bless you." Now, imagine if the leaders of the effort weren't just the Jerry Falwell Admiration Society, but instead the full weight and force of the Department of Justice, training lawyers and enlisting supporters across the country ready to blow the whistle on any perceived slight to religion. Got the picture? It's the DOJ's new "First Freedoms Project" announced earlier this week by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, an effort to tout and enhance the Department's pursuit of religious discimination claims through the Civil Rights Divison.

US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales sought out a meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention's Executive Committee as his venue to unveil the new religious liberty initiative of the Department of Justice during a speech in Nashville on Tuesday. The "First Freedom Project" touts the Administration's record arguing religious freedom claims through its Civil Rights Division, provides resources on free exercise rights, and a new "Report on Enforcement of Laws Protecting Religious Freedom."

Make no mistake, I am here to ask the Southern Baptist Convention, and all of you in this room, for your help. The Department of Justice has many tools to protect religious freedoms in this country, and we are using them. But even with all of our passion and our dedication to this cause, we cannot do it alone.

2. Wow! Why the need to stir the pot?
Apparently the right wing hate machine looked around and saw all the fucking dumbass lemmings looking about with their thumbs up their asses and wondering where all the persecution of christians was in this country. So they sent out the honorable gonzo to stir the shit up and ensure the jerkoffs stay on message. The constitution hating bastards have no concept of persecution or suffering and they are ignorant enough to be led around by the nose and support moves to destroy the one document that guarantees them the right to be ignorant motherfuckers.

5. What a crock!
They aren't working to protect religious freedom, they are working to implement a Theocracy and eliminate religious freedom completely. There is no religious freedom when people cannot choose NOT to say, for example, "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas". This is coercion plain and simple.

6. It's brilliant.
Gonzalez (inspired by Rove, maybe?) is taking a volatile, angry, paranoid group and instead of trying to buy them off (which would be impossible; their demands would escalate endlessly) he instead is recruiting them for the team. Once you're an insider, you can only try for a palace revolt.

The Pukes are betting that this group is so worshipful of power and authority that they will not do such a thing.

Either way, the rest of us lose. Jeez.

8. Doing this for marshall law
If bushco ever decided to declare marshal law this could give them the forces needed to enforce it,seeing how the military and National Gaurd all tied up in Iraq.

That's my tinfoil moment of the day.

10. Watch for arrests on Heresy and Blasphemy charges
Soon they'll outlaw atheism and people like me will either wind up in Xian concentration camps or maybe we'll just disappear.

11. These are the prison officials and guards who will keep dissentors
Edited on Thu Feb-22-07 06:01 PM by higher class
and heathens imprisoned in the prisons of profit that have been and are being built in THIS country. We will not be renditioned except from one state to another - unless the people kick Gonzales and his bosses out of the United States of America. Let them have their bible and torture and perpetual war accompanied by perpetual killing, lies, thefts, and debts. No more - kick them out - keep our Constituion and Bill of Rights and all movements that have progressed us a humans since the country was founded. We no longer can tolerate each other and it's useless pretending that one or the other side will prevail. Let them have their kllling country - they will have a more precise purpose for activites related to saving every fetus.
