Damn good thing we have a diversity of opinion!

Politics is a full contact sport.

I think thats called the primaries - or Democracy.

DU will be just fine.:)

After the convention, we will close ranks.

First, the Battle of Three Armies.

But before the mortal blows can be struck, Gandalf appears to warn of a greater threat, Goblins and Wargs!

Then, the Battle of Five Armies is joined! Perhaps the eagles will help us carry the day!

How much better will these images be when Peter Jackson has his way!

56. Those long-handled fighting knives the elves were sporting...bad design.
I mean, they looked cool and all...but the handles as long as the blades?
Screws up anything approaching balance...

I like 'cool-looking' weapons as much as the next person, but when it's a choice between 'cool-looking' and good design, I'll take good design, thank you.
In damascus steel, please...if you have it.

58. They're made for a wide two-handed grip for extra leverage
The japanese and chinese did a lot of similar things with some of their slashing weapons. Some of them were almost polearms, with hilts slightly longer than the blades. (I.E., the chinese kwandao) And the europeans used the long grip for their very heaviest swords so that they could use the extra leverage. Not THAT long, of course, but that's because a claymore with a claymore-length hilt would no longer be a sword, it'd be a polearm. :)

For a single person's fighting weapon it's actually pretty good design. However for regimented sword and shield work... not so smart. Need the free hand for the shield, and trying to use something with a hilt that long one-handed is just not gonna work. Bad balance, as you mentioned, not to mention the whole extra bit of hilt sticking out and making it easy be knocked out of your hand.

I don't know if you meant it to be snarky or not, and I honestly don't care. I just simply love it.

Kucinich may yet be our Frodo. And as someone posted above, Edwards/Elrond would definitely be a kick-ass ticket! I'm for both.

Yay, Hobbits! Yay, Elves!
