Megachurch Leader Charged With Perjury
Megachurch Leader Charged With Perjury

ATLANTA (AP) — An 80-year-old leader of a suburban megachurch who is at the center of a sex scandal has been charged with lying under oath for saying he had sex outside marriage with only one other woman, court documents show.

A warrant for the arrest of Archbishop Earl Paulk, co-founder of Cathedral of the Holy Spirit at Chapel Hill Harvester Church, was issued Monday, according to court documents. Paulk was making arrangements Monday night to turn himself in, WAGA-TV reported.

His attorneys did not immediately return calls from The Associated Press seeking comment.

Former church employee Mona Brewer is suing Paulk, his brother and the church on allegations that Paulk manipulated her into an affair from 1989 to 2003 by telling her it was her only path to salvation. In a 2006 deposition stemming from the lawsuit, the archbishop said under oath that the only woman he had ever had sex with outside of his marriage was Brewer.

If I have this right Paulk was still practicing the laying on of hands in the biblical sense with Ms Brewer when he was 76 years of age.

2. These words"
"Paulk manipulated her into an affair from 1989 to 2003 by telling her it was her only path to salvation" I'm sorry but how gullible is this person. If the church constantly preaches that adultery is a sin, how can any person with normally firing synapses believe that salvation lies in sinning?

3. It is called "brainwashing." Look it up.
:hi:

The problem is that many of these "mega churches" are actually cults: Charismatic leaders who micromanage the lives of their followers for their own aggrandizement and gain. Cult followers are conditioned to accept whatever the Holy Leader tells them is true, no matter the cognitive dissonance such demands might cause.

5. Exactly.
Just a couple of famous example of such being Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple, and Yahweh ben Yahweh and his Temple of Love.

6. Brainwashing never took on me.
Although it's been tried in several forms. Maybe my personality/self-identity is too strong or something. Something in my mind always goes "You want me to do what?!?!"

4. George Carlin: "If I can convince you there's an invisible elf sitting on your shoulder
watching everything you do, I can convince you of anything."

This is THE reason why the "left" are so aghast about the Catholic priests molesting young boys ... not because, as righties would say, "we hate the Catholic church and religion", but because someone is using God to tell someone that what is happening to them is not only okay, but the way God wants it ...
