This is how a traitor looks. Posed here with Mr. and Mrs. Arafat, and his wife, Mrs.Treason.

A Republican.

Republicans fund terrorists.

3. He was uber-conservative.
Born in Chicago, Siljander won a special election to succeed David Stockman after Stockman was named budget director by former President Ronald Reagan.

In Congress, Siljander supported school prayer and anti-abortion bills and a proposed 10 percent flat income tax.

William Ballenger, editor of Inside Michigan Politics, said Siljander was not highly regarded as a congressman and was too conservative even for his highly conservative western Michigan district. "He was so far out in right field, he was in the bleachers," Ballenger said.

"I think the ex-congressman is experiencing what I would call a Jimmy Swaggart moment," Ballenger said, referring to a Pentecostal televangelist who got caught up in scandals in the 1980s and early 1990s.

"The irony is staggering, the complete hypocrisy of it."

Siljander was successfully challenged in the 1986 primary by U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, who still holds the seat for the GOP today. At the time, Siljander sent a taped message to members of the clergy urging support for him to "break the back of Satan."

Upton had no immediate comment on the indictment, a spokesman said.

Harold Schuitmaker of Paw Paw, a former local Republican chairman who ran against Siljander for the congressional nomination in 1982, said Siljander no longer has ties to the area.

"It does surprise me because he professed to have high moral values," Schuitmaker said.

Siljander served in the Michigan state House from 1977 to 1981 and as a township trustee from 1972 to 1976.

He served one year in the UN as a Reagan appointee in 1987. Siljander also attempted a political comeback in 1992 when he sought the Republican nomination for a congressional seat in Virginia, losing in a five-way race.

The indictment alleges the Islamic charity sent about $130,000 to help Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, an Afghan mujahideen leader who is designated a terrorist by the U.S. with connections to al-Qaeda and the Taliban.
