CBC program on identity theft an eye opener
The CBC just broadcast an enlightening program on the massive global problem of identity theft. Billions of dollars are exchanged worldwide using people's stolen identity.
These identity thieves are almost impossible to trace because they wipe their tracks well after using the stolen info from the online source. There are thousands of different servers being used at one time so it's almost impossible for authorities to track this down to one place.
The show's moderator depicted a real time scenario on one of these online theft chat rooms.
A dummy credit card was set up on there with about a $100.00 limit. The thieves took the bait and withing about 20 minutes, the whole $100.00 was spent. Single cards can go for as little as $3.00 a piece. For about $20.00, a thief can get data on a person's social security, Mother's maiden name and other pieces of info. The attached link will give a video from some of the broadcast.
